A person working on an ATM machine at a bank in Waukesha up here found a skimming device and a pin hole camera on it.

Apparently the skimming device is a false panel placed over the existing card slot, looking like part of the machine, which grabs and stores your card information. And the pin hole camera watches you punch in your pin number.

This news article give some tips on what to look for.

About two weeks ago there was one discovered in NJ that was stealing numbers and passwords the same way.  They said if you use one to try covering up as you type the password.  Easier not to use em.  I think they charge a few bucks to use them if you aren't an account holder with the machine's bank.

Yeah the article says to look for slapstick mechanisms or anything out of place. Even poke around the card slot and make sure it's all machine and there's nothing temporarily attached or loose appearing.

That is close to home. I will have to show this to the family. I can't remember the last time I used an atm, oh wait I needed some cash to pick up some Jeep parts.

Make sure you check your online bank statements every day or at least once a week. Even if you don't have a debit card or use an ATM your bank account can be compromised. Also insist on a bank that uses a Visa debit card so when this happens to the bank or ATM you can get your money put back in.

Over the past 3 years at my other bank we had a few misc charges ranging from .99 cents to $35.00  we didn't charge and had our money back in minutes of our complaint. One of the guys at work (same Bank) had a $300.00 charge I dropped him off at the bank and 20 minutes later he had his money back in his account and his card cancelled.

At our Credit union bank we have not had a problem but it is backed with a Visa debit card also. I know almost every Bank uses electronics and can be hacked at anytime so keep a constant check on your accounts.

most skimmers record the pin . i work for a bank/ another safety tip , when ur card is scanned make sure they run thru the same reader, some skimmers have been hooked next to registers. will run it thru one and say that didnt work and the use the register
