They are in the onion family.  They are delicious although they have a very strong odor.  Here is a link with some pics of them.  the ones in the pics are a little more mature than the ones I picked.  The ones I picked had not really broke ground yet but were delicious fried in bacon greese.

So it's s southern thing, you think?

Jim, ramps and festivals honoring them maybe a southern thing but I suspect some of us southern folks just like to have an excuse to throw a rubbin'.  One thing for sure when ya' eat a big bait of ramps you will soon find out who your true friends are.  :innocentwhistle: :alscalls:

*Southern translation: a rubbin' = a bash, blow out or party where "Hey Bubba.... hold my beer and watch this" is sometimes heard  :laf:

Born and raised in the southern highlands of Appalachia, I'm just an ol' country boy who enjoys calling coyotes... nothing more, nothing less.

If they are like onions, I'm in!. I'll peel an onion for supper and end up eating half of it like an apple. I love em.

I suspect you would like ramps.  The next batch I pick I will try to send you a handful to fry up and see what ya think.

Usually they are known as ramps in the south but this vegetable can go by other names such as wild leeks (to non-southerners). :innocentwhistle: :laf:

More than you ever wanted to know about ramps:

I caught it!  Isn't that racial profiling?  And where do I get my free Ramps as I'm a non-southerner and want my handout!
