Katie called me the other day at work and says, Dad I'm stuck at Walmart and my car won't start and it's smoking.

So, we get it home a lil while later and come to find out the water pump is going bad which sprayed antifreeze all over the belt, which made the belt slip and the alternator wasn't charging the battery, and the antifreeze was steaming off the block lol

Sounds like the end of the world right? Not really.... actually a 30 minute job. But check this out. I took a picture of the block where the water pump was after I got it out, to show her. And look what I noticed in the picture afterwards. All the spots that had gotten wet with antifreeze glowed with a red hue. I've never seen that before. They were no longer wet, but the antifreeze left something there which glowed. And it only did it in the camera lens. You couldn't see it with your naked eye.

It was dark out while while I changed the water pump just outside the shop because I didn't want antifreeze on the floor. Therefore I used a heat lamp so to speak clamp to the inside of the hood to light up the engine compartment for me. That bulb just happen to be at infrared bulb. I wonder if that's what did this. Kind of cool but weird.

We sometimes add a Phosphorescent chemical in some of our adhesives to aid the customer in detecting dried adhesive films on the surface of the finished product.  That is what you are seeing here.  Its designed to illuminate when exposed to black light, or infra red.  Easier to detect dried spills or leaks.

Jim,

Did you take a picture of your hands and clothes to see if it reacted the same way there?  You too may glow in the dark.
