DAYTON, Ohio â€" Police say a suspect is in “grave” condition after he was shot by an elderly woman while apparently trying to break into her Dayton home.

Police officials say the woman had been alone Monday evening when she shot someone who she believed was trying to break into her home.

“It appears the individual did, in fact, begin to make entry into her home before the resident did discharge her weapon,” police Lt. Mark Ponichtera told WHIO.

First responders found a male on the porch and rushed him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect’s injuries are so severe that it’s unclear if he’s an adult or a juvenile.  Lt. Mark Ponichtera said, “Other means will have to be used to identify him.”

Detectives will question the woman and determine whether to pursue charges.

“People do have a right to protect their home if they feel as if their life is in danger,” Ponichtera said. “There are specific circumstances upon which that may occur and it will be up to detectives to determine whether or not those particular parameters have been met.”

Police are looking for two other suspects. Both are believed to be juveniles.

Sounds like the lady did just as she should have. Contacted the local athorities and then took care of business.

Some of the people I work with and myself were trying to figure out what she may have discharged. A howitzer is the running theory.

 A few months ago here in New Hampshire three druggies followed an elderly woman home in their car and one jumped out and tried to grab her purse and she whipped her gun out and shot his ass, wounded him and he took off but they got all three of them two guys and a girl. I bet that loser was Some surprised when granny whipped out her shootin iron and give it to him
