Your ice fishing already? We're supposed to get an inch and a half of rain today after the 4 inches of snow. We just got yesterday..

Hawks Feather

Are you sitting in your kayak doing that fishing?

nastygunz

That's a chunky fish🐟🐟🐟🐟

Okanagan

Niice! Dandy fish and that ice looks pretty thick.

I'd like to wish I could ice fish with you, but my aging bod does not like to go out in the cold much anymore. :laf: Wish I could join you for a fish fry!

We've had several days of dark cold rain and now this monnrng it is fairly clear and frosty, colder than average for our part of the world.  Good snow on the mountains above us.

There is/was a good 4 to 5 inches of ice.
I'm the same way Clyde. It was a tad over 40 degrees last Sunday so I could take it :eyebrownod: But anymore....my dining room wood stove has made a sissy out of me.

No kayak Jerry. But kayak fishing is A LOT warmer  :eyebrownod: and I'm already ready for it. :innocentwhistle:

I'm a week late Nasty. They were on the ice last weekend here but I still had firewood to stack. (priorites)

I didnt drive out, no. There's little to none lake fishing up here and you aint driving nothing across the Mississippi River here. :nono:  Too many islands, too many beaver runs.
We, (brother and I) caught I think 15 between the two of us that were worth keeping, in the short time we were there. We have a little thing going where unless we are going to limit out, whoever catches the most, gets em all.
I think he had two more fish then me so I gave him mine, this time.
It was actually pretty slow. Then when I got to work that Monday I got told by a couple friends that they limited out (25 fish) about a mile down river :doh2:

For those that know anything about ice jigs.
I'm an Ohio red worm die hard. I can always catch fish on those if rigged right on a Demon jig.
This day, they were so finicky it was stupid. Wax worm, spikes, leaches, demons, rockers, minnows. Just couldnt get a good consistent bite on anything we tried.

A couple years ago I bought some different jigs, tried them a couple times and never had any luck what so ever with them. To the point where my confidence level was zero when using them so they ended up just laying in the bottom of the Sucrets tin full of ice jigs, and never get used.

As a last resort, right before we packed it in this day, I tied one on and started jigging it down slowly towards the bottom. No bait on it.
Caught 5 fish consecutively before it ever made it to the bottom each time. First was a 12 inch bass, Then a real nice 8" perch. and three bull Bluegill right after that. It's like they were all setting down there waiting for the right offering  :laf:

Any guesses what it was that I tied on?

I would imagine. I would guess that you get warmed up pretty good chopping a hole in the ice big enough for the yak.
