I worked out in the shop this weekend to get some calls done to sell. A friend told me he liked something old school. He said it should look like an old call thats been around a while. It's one piece of Maple with a little spalting. I stained the barrel a little darker than the stopper. I burned a line where the two would split so it would look like 2 pieces. I also burned the lanyard groove and a couple lines around it. There is also a line on each end. I also made a couple of plain Maples. One had more spalting. I kinda like the way the "old" one turned out.
Thanks for looking. Comments welcome

He should be happy with those.  :congrats:
Just curious how ya have the top one set up,
do ya blow it like a duck call? Or is that the mouthpiece
in the second pic? I personally like the steps sanded down smooth,
I think that's what I see. I like the line ya burned around the end.
Nice job.

The end you see is the mouthpiece. I talked to Jerry(hawksFeather) last night and he told me that alot of the old calls left the steps in them. So I decided to leave them in this one. Plus I like the steps. the lines on the ends were hard to get to burn. Thanks

That's what I woulda guessed on the mouth piece, just curious.
True on the steps, and that's what's great about this,
not everybody likes the exact same thing!
Again, nice job on em !

Dusty,

Like I said, the step drill brings back memories of many of the early calls that I bought.  Not many leave the steps in them now, but I still like the looks.  The spalted lines do help set off the call.

Jerry,
I hope I didn't show you're age by that one

Dusty,

I have only make a couple of calls that I left the steps in, but I would guess that I have 25 or so in my collection from other makers that left them in.  Now as for my age - I like getting older much better than not getting any older and hope to just keep getting older and older.    :innocentwhistle:

THO Game Calls

I really like the look of traditional calls.  Those came out very nice.  You have some pretty wood to work with, and you did it justice.  My favorite is the second one.

Thanks for the comments guys. Actually I sold that second call today. :yoyo: The first call I've sold. Man am I excited! The guy didn't even hesitate when I showed them to him and told him the price. So now I have three more to sell. I'm supposed to stop and see a couple guys on my way in at work tommorrow.
