Crab apple wood

I have a crab apple tree in my yard that I am going to cut down. I was just going to hack it up and put it by the road to be picked up. Then I got to wondering if it was useful for anything. So I got online and read that it was good for smoking meat. I will probably dry some and give it a try. My question to you call makers and wood workers is this: is crab apple wood any good for turning or carving? If so, I will stack it up and bring it to LBL for anybody that wants it. Somebody let me know if it is worth keeping or if I should just go back to my original plan.

Apple wood is very good to smoke meat with.I have seen some cut up into  craftwood also.

If you remember to bring some to the LBL I will take some off your hands.

As it looks right now I will be there,but that is 5 months away

Green wood is better for smoking.
As far as turnning it......Try it That is the best way to tell.

I cut the tree down today. I used a few chunks of the wood to smoke a chicken. It turned out pretty good, a bit milder than hickory. My family really liked it. I'll keep a little for the smoker and the rest I'll bring to LBL for anybody that wants some. Whatever nobody wants, we'll just throw on the fire.
