Turkey calls

I must say I have slain turkeys with every call under the sun, box, scratch box, mouth calls, wingbone, etc....Im thinking of a good custom call....probably a box call....just for something different....not really interested in pretty looking...in fact I prefer rougher old style.....with great sounds......any suggestions?

Alscalls makes a nice affordable and easy to use box call.

I bought my first turkey call from him last spring I let my 8 year old grandson use it when we went hunting
and didn't take him long to figure out how to make it talk

I am sure there are alot of other folks that make turkey calls and I am sure they are just as nice and easy to use

Something else I do.....If you have a board out of old great granddads home place or something they can sometimes be made into a wonderful call to remember him by....
If you would like I can start on a call for you and if you do not like it.....You dont have to take it I can sell it this spring for sure.
I use a draw knife on the curve of the lid and rough cut my planks from a log with a hatchet then plain them or saw them down with power tools....Not really old school but a mixture of the two for sure.

I make turkey calls as well, but I think you already know that.  Not trying to get any business from anybody here...give Al a try and see how his calls work out for ya.

I aint into real fancy stuff cause I know I will hunt my butt off and beat it up some.

Al's turkey call can get you in a whack of trouble with your wife it lands in the wrong hands but it sure is easy to use.  I hope the wife forget's why she's mad and gives it back sometime.

I assume you were referring more to box calls, I have pics of some slates as well if anybody wants to see. Obviously these calls were made with some higher grade woods, I do make some in woods that don't have a lot of bling.

Just like on a truck...scratches build character Honestly, I have hunted with mine quite a bit and it doesn't have a scratch on it yet.

How do you do the curve on the lid?
Just wondering ....I carve most of mine.

I make an outline on the end of the paddle to the proper radius and then take it to my belt sander from there. After I have it nearly where I want I put it on the box and start the tuning process. I have thrown out more than one paddle in the process I think I have it almost down to a science though. Some of the woods I have used would be kind of difficult to carve due the density of them.

I know what you mean....you can buy blanks with the curve already on them but the curve aint right for my calls...
