I took this down in mid January 08. Double bagged it & let it set in the garage til 2 weeks ago. I sprayed 1/2 a can of poly in the holes & left it hang in the warm basement. When nothing came out after 8 days or so I sprayed the rest of the can on the outside to preserve it. I hope that 6lb test Fireline holds it.  :laf: It's as big as a basketball. I can't find the original pic of it still in the tree now.  :laf:

i wonder if itll start buzzin when it comes time for them to come out? lol

Glen,

I have heard that they really like Poly, but it will keep them in suspended animation for an extra couple of weeks.  They probably won't come out till much warmer weather.  As we all know, hornets leave their nest and burrow into the ground for winter.  This happens everywhere EXCEPT eastern Ohio, where they choose to remain in the nest all winter.

They are really neat inside. I've torn quite a few apart & just checked out the way they make the chambers & have their passageways. Purdy cool.

You do this around July 1?  If so, is the purdy cool is from the ointment they put on your stings?

HaMer'  Really nothing to worry about the Hornets getting out,The fact that you were able to cut the nest down means they were gone, I have several of the nest, they don't winter in the nest, its safe to take them down in late Fall when they leave the nest.
