I went out Howling tonight at a place very close to home.  Just trying to do some locating. Howled two times and then was answered immediately. Sounded like an old dog. Real deep tone. I know exactly how to set up too. I can't wait. i am going to try to set up one afternoon this week. I will let you know.

Good luck with this Fast.  Do you guys do a lot of this locating stuff?  Up here I don't want them any more alert than the already are.  Plus I can't think of too many places where there isn't a coyote.
I say what I think not think what I say.

Around here Barry ........we dont  have near as many as you do up there and they can be difficult to find in this terrain.
It has been argued that a call can not be heard as far away as well.......I do know that sometimes we have only moved 2-300 yds. to do another set and have gotten responses this way......
The howling is fun but some guys take it way to far and burn up your ground doing it so they dont educate their own dogs.
For example....on my farm there is an old abandoned road High up on a ridge that goes for about 6 miles total .....every one rides ATV's there and at night they go where they can not see any lights from houses and howl just to hear the coyotes then along comes another group behind the and does it again......next thing ya know I got the hardest to call danged coyotes you ever seen...... :madd:
Done correctly it is an effective tool and if I ever get the chance I will try and show ya what I mean........... :eyebrownod:
As I think howling them in is a heck of a good time......ya just gotta say the right thing and shut up at the right times ....thats the hard part.... :laf: :laf:

Good deal Fast~, keep us posted. Bring us a pic of some furdown :yoyo:

Al, that didn't make a whole lot of sense. Why would someone go somewhere else to howl coyotes so they dont educate their own.
That's basically saying that howling is not an effective calling tool at all.

What did not make sense .......  Some areas get over called from the roads is all.... it happens around here all the time.
Same can be said about turkeys.

I think it is a very effective calling tool....some folks, Down here anyway do it way to much way to often.

Here's something similar.   In KY, from the first of March to opening day in April, you are not allowed to call turkeys.  You can locate them with an owl call, crow call, etc but you can't use turkey calls in the woods.   Too many people were practising on someone else's birds.   :laf:

Ahhhhhh, lets see if it works but we dont want to spend a lot of time concealing ourselves, so lets go over here and do it. :eyebrownod:

NNNNNNnnnow I gotch'ya

I think I'd be tempted to pour a 50lb box of 3/4" roofing nails out on the tail gate and go touring the back roads. :sneer:

If ya shoot a mud hole on the weekend from about 400 yds away I bet about 20 trespassers would come out throwing beer cans everywhere to get to their ATV's...... :roflmao: :roflmao:
