I took my boy (7 yrs) out for a little night hunting.   He was a trooper...he didn't mind carrying all the gear at all.

I don't know if you can afford that Jim.  It's pretty fancy.  It's the black plastic off of one of those $1.50 flimsy 3-ring binders, and camo duct tape.  I put it on as a temporary deal... a couple years ago.  It's held up great - bends when bumped and pops right back - light, quiet.
