Hydrographics (3D camo dip)

Hydrographics, also known as water transfer printing, 3D printing, and camo dipping, is a process used to add graphics to various 3 dimensional objects that are non porous and can be immersed into water without being damaged.


Yesterday I met a few of the good folks from Brothers Hydrographics & Taxidermy of Rogersville, Tenn.  They do what is often called Camo dipping. The items I inspected were in fact very well done, quite professional.  Among their many 3D printed items (including hand calls and archery tackle) some of the beauties that caught my eye were their camo gun stocks, scopes and complete firearms. Also, being a FFL holder makes it quicker and much easier to ship firearm actions to them. Your mileage may vary but I was told (at this time anyway) the estimated turn-around on a complete gun is usually a month or less, not too shabby.
 
I asked the Brothers crew to visit us at FnF, hopefully they will do so.

I wonder if they can dip an already camo'ed surface.      My SBE is showing a little wear in spots.  Also, what kind of cost are we talking about.

Semp ive seen it done on tv and they can dip anything but they have to prep the surface first ive thought about getting into this a few times but i figured i would just camo everything i owned and never make any money LOL!! The only thing that ive seen about it is some companys maybe all spray lacquer flat clear over it to seal it and protect thats why you are getting wear on your SB the clear is worn off allowing the finish to wear. I painted my 11-87 supermag a few years ago and put urethane automotive clear on it with flatening agent to remove the shine and it has held up great and has been put to the test with no wear if your finish is still pretty good i would pre clean it and hit it light with steel wool and spray another coat of flat lacquer over it and do it every year or so as needed. But i would try a spot under the barrel first just to test it and make sure it wont lift .

The kits aint to bad in price and you CAN do it yourself.

Semp, they use an automotive clear cote type finish over the prints... either in gloss or matt.

Where did the PDF file come from? I'm not finding anything about kits on their website.

CCP mentioned the kits and I was asking about them. The pfd is a scan of a section of the Brothers hydrographics price list that I have.  I don't believe Brothers carry the do-it-yourself kits.

I have a brushed stainless rifle that I was thinking about getting done.
