Purgatory_Predator_Calls

Well, first off let me introduce myself.  Joey Gacnik aka Kowotie on PM.  I've been surfing FNF for some time now but never joined up figuring 1 forum was enough.  Over time more and more of my personal favorite call makers were jumping on board and posting calls here.  Besides that it's a laid back atmosphere that is suitable to me.  Lot's of great guys here and still lots overthere.

Like I said the molded tone board thread realy inspired me to get out and make some toneboards (by hand).  Well no doubt it's time consuming.  Took me longer to make this toneboard out of 1-1/2" ivory acrylic than it did to make the call  body.  But man what satisfaction!!!!  I've made several in the past but found them substandard and just wayyyyy to time consuming.   This one came out quite nicely however and I am proud to put my name on it for a customer in Montana.

The call body is desert ironwood with the New Mexico "Zia" symbol laser engraved and filled with copper dust.  Like I said above, the toneboard is hand filed, sanded, and polished.  The copper spiral was cut in the acrylic the same way as the call body then filled with copper dust.  The spiral inlay is about 1/16" deep.  I had a hard time getting the versatile sound that I like in other toneboards but it does do what I consider great cotton tail and  bird sounds,  and ok pup howls and female whimpers.

Anyhow guys, thanks for looking and I look forward to being a part of the family!

Beautiful! Did you fill in the engraving yourself or did the engraver do it?
Or maybe you did both?

The engraving was done by a local gentleman who does custom laser engraving for a living.  He's very reasonable with his pricing.  Besided that, it only took about 5 minutes from consept to the actual completion of the engraving. He engraved that call a total of three times.  The first two times I got home, inlayed the symbol and just wasn't happy with its location in comparison to the colors on the call.  As you can see one side is very dark and the other very yellow and orange.  Finally we got it perfect and all sealed up.  I was thrilled with the results.  It's kind of hard to tell from the pictures but it is flawless, very straight lines and symetircal.

So in short, he engraved it and I inlayed it.

Glad you all like it!  Talk to you all soon,

Joey

Joey,

Glad to see your callse.  I consider myself fortunate to say that I have one of Joey's Desert Ironwood calls and it is very well made.  You can tell that time was taken in the turning and in the finishing process.  It also sounds pretty good.

Joey, Thanks for turning my idea and expanding it to create this fully functional work of art. This call is amazing but not as amazing as the Maker Joey aka "Kowotie" . I really appreciate the hard work and attention to detail you put into this project. It is a real pleasure to have callmakers like you and others on here that take great pride in the work they do and it shows.
