Jim they come from texas. axis is like ivory.semi hard to get and expensive. the worse is muledeer to use very porrous. better sound out of whitetail, axis and Fallow.dense material. like wood .i get my best sound's from cocabola, blackwood,  desert ironwood  and  eastern ceder is light but great sound's.
