Got some sweet stuff in the mail from Al last week.  I couldn't wait to tear into it.

I am really liking this acrylic stuff.  It takes a while longer to turn and finish than the wood does, but I think it is worth it in the end.

I am still learning new things everytime one gets installed on the lathe, but a HUGE portion of the learning curve is covered from Al's website.  I couldn't have done this without him.

I need to get in some higher grit sandpaper to put some finishing touches on these.  Sanding the acrylic to a polished state seems like it takes longer to do than turning it to shape! :madd:  The inside of the call body is the pits sometimes. :rolleye:  One thing I have learned when sanding acrylic is to make sure you keep the piece cool and do not hold the sand paper in one spot too long.  Wet sanding with water helps a bunch too.  If you hold the sandpaper in one spot too long, then ya get these "dust comets" I call them.  The look like long streaks of dust around the body, sort of like a comet and tail.  They sand out, but are a pain to get rid of once you get one.  Thanks Al and Cypress for the Brasso tip.  It really helps with the polishing!

They ain't for sale.  But maybe someday once all of the kinks are worked out, some like em may show up for sale.

Once again, a BIG thanks to Al on everything that he has done.  All of his materials are top notch, from the wood to acrylic, and the polished bands. :congrats:

Hey Al, when ya going to post up the new materials on your site that you advertised a little while back?  You will have another order from me shortly.......

You apparently didn't read the posting rules regarding posting so many various acrylic colors in a single post. You cannot do this!

Yeahm that bronze one in the middle is HOT.   They all look good!

How do you like the sound of them compared to wood?

Al, the acrylic really has it's own ring to it doesn't it!  The crispness of the sound really sets it apart from wood.

Sorry Jim for getting you all worked up.  That really wasn't a sight I wanted to picture tonight. :rolleye:  :nono:

Good Job!  I found tripple E cream works as good on acrylic as it does on wood.  It will provide that wet sanding action with fine grit.   I follow it with brasso and I'm done.  Saves on sandpaper.

I likes the looks of 3 and 4. Plus I'm the odd ball in this group, I'm nowhere near against copper/brass, but I really like the staneless/silver/satin colored rings.

Nice Job young Jedi.

I agree with Keekee. The middle one is my favorite, but they are all nice. Brian.

Very pretty calls.  How do you attach the tone board to the barrel?

Very nice BigB, you sure have done a fine job on the acrylic. I think they all look great.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.  It does help me very much.

Nineth, I have been playing around with o-ring fitment on some acrylics as well as some 2-ton epoxy and Elmers Ultimate glue to fit the toneboards into the acrylic.

BigB,

Looks like you are really getting the hang of working acrylic.  That one in the center is my pick of the litter.
