I got to the woods with just enough light to see and headed for the spot I know they roost. They were gobling like crazy! So I sneak in and get setup. I did a couple of quite yelps in response to the hens I heard.

About 20 minutes later a hear them fly down. As soon as they hit the ground the toms all shut up, not a single gobble. But I do hear a couple of hens yelping. So I start to imitate them with my new wingbone yelper made by KEE KEE. That really got the hens fired up! I can see one of them working my way. She passed within 20 yards. The toms didn't come with her.

I can see 5 or 6 more turkeys moving off the other way. After they were out of sight I sat for another 30 minutes, nothing.

I hear a couple of gobbles aways off in the direction they were heading. So I decided to try and head them off. Just about the time I think I'm where I need to be, I see them. Too late, BUSTED!!

At this point I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. After weighing my options I decide to head to the corner of the Field which is a known travel route.

I set out my decoys this time. With a jake on a hen in breeding postion and call sparingly mixing it up with a box call from RJ(yes another new call) and my wing bone yelper. Knowing this is a travel route I'm going to wait them out. After about an hour this tom comes busting out into the Field and heads straight for the decoys. I think he has intentions of kicking the crap outta that jake! When he's about 1 yrd from the decoys I let him have it with a load of 5 shot at 25 paces! He's down for the count!

He's got a 10 1/2 inch beard, 1 inch spurs and weighs 22 lbs.

WOW I can't believe I missed this! I noticed it when I was getting ready to clean it.
The main one is 10 1/2 and the second one is 8 1/4!!

Chad,

Nice article and even better bird.  I saw the other picture and thought KeeKee wingbone hanging on that gun.  I guess if you have one you notice another.  I was out today and the woods were creepy quiet.  I didn't even see a squirrel.  I did see movement several times and finally caught sight of two dogs that were working the woods and fields.  If they would have been cats and not dogs, they would have been fertilizer.
