...but thank GOD it wasnt mine :sad3:

Someone at work today got a text message or something and said there was a house in our town and on our street burning. Neighboring volunteer fire depts were on the scene to help contain it.

There's three of us at work that live on this street. Two of us burn wood. You could have heard a pin drop when that news hit the cafeteria today. Actually, I take that back...you could here me and the neighbors heart beat rapidly increase as we waited for more details and no one had any.

It ended up being about 5 houses down the street from me. When I got home at 4:00 the two story house had no roof, and the upstairs was literally half gone. :shock2:

They burned wood, I do know that. I recall seeing him sorting and stacking wood all summer. Older couple,  she was the county treasure. Both very maticulat, kept a nice house etc.
They are both ok...but it's pretty scarey seeing it in your neighborhood. ESPECIALLY since I just started burning wood this year and I'm nervous anyway, although getting better. :sad3:

WHEWwwwwwwwwwwww! :whew:

Too close to home!  Had to be some anxious hours, I use some electrics, and after too many melted plugs and smokey outlets, shut 'em down when I'm gone or sleeping.

I don't know if I would have been able to make it till the end of the day.  I would have been calling a neighbor or going to check.

We didnt have to wait too long. The guy that got a text message made some calls to get details so we were put at ease within 15 or 20 minutes. But it seemed like a looong 15 to 20 minutes.

We knew about where it was and that it wasnt our houses, and had to wait till we got home to actually see where it was and how bad though.

That would be scary!  I started to burn with a pellet stove (which I think is way safer than wood) about three months ago and when I'm driving home I still get a little nervous that my house is still there (I put the stove in myself).

I was outside shoveling tonight and one of the elderly neighbors walks by and says, "Hi".
I returned the Hi and he stops and says, "you see what happens to people that burn wood?"

:iroll:
I had a million come backs but I bit my tongue
