Guys,

It was cooler today so I decided to go calling here close to the house.  First couple of stands behind the house in the woods . . .

After lunch I went across the road from the house.

Set up in the shade watching a narrow field.

I put the e-caller about 100 yards out in front of me at the edge of the woods to the left.  Started with fawn distress on the mouth call then after a few minutes switched to the same sound on the e-call.  No success.  One of my favorite sounds on the Foxpro is "screaming grey fox" so I switched to that sound.  Soon I saw this . . .

There were two of them . . .

They stayed near the call til I muted it, then they went back into the woods to the right of the field.

Then I would start the sound up again and one of them would come back out toward the call.

I played with them for half an hour or so.  In WV fox season doesn't come in til November.  So I just shot them with the Nikon P510 camera.

Beautiful creatures!!  So I guess I did OK.  Got a double with the camera!  Had a great day!

Yah I was gonna say and you loved every minute of it. Those were some good shots. :eyebrownod:
The Gray Fox is one of the most hyper ambitious creatures I know.
A day well spent. Thanks for taking us along.

Greys are just cool.  It's always nice to lay eyes on them.  Great photos

I have to say that I continue to be impressed with the Nikon P510 camera with it's 42x zoom.  As I was taking the above pictures the foxes were moving and I couldn't tell if the photos were coming out well or not.  When zoomed all the way in with the digital zoom you really cant be sure if they are in focus.  I was very pleased with the results when I got the pics downloaded to the computer!  Great camera!!  Just a little awkward to carry on hunts with me???  I'm pleased you guys liked the pics!!

Froggie, those are really great pictures. Thanks for sharing. I think the grey fox is one of the prettiest furbearers.

Looks like you had a great time Jim.  Those greys look really healthy.  You'll be in for a good year come November.
