Don't feel bad Bill.....Lil-Man has enough busted/screwed up pieces to start fires for the next ten years. I've got to get on the lathe twice & one went to Kurt, the other one in the kinlin pile......

Keep making them.  Just threw out years of failures last week, filled up half a garbage can.  Don't know why I saved all those imperfect call parts, felt good to get rid of it.

Joe not taking any pics of this one till you got and you can post them.I just think it was bad luck showing the call to soon.

If I save the imperfect ones it gives me something to always go back to.throwing one away at a time don't make a good fire. :laf:

Looking forward to it Bill.......Use all the bad ones for a good ceremonial fire. Give all them bad pieces of wood a good burial.

Question Bill... what's the diameter of the maple branch/log you are Making the calls from?   Can't scale it from the first picture, but it looks to be fairly small diameter.

Lodobe That branch is 2inches in Diameter I made a 2nd call out of it and it,and the call ended up spliting so I will wait and turn some other stuff for awhile and let that alone.

Wood will split from the pith to outter edge unless it is stablized. :rolleye:

Bill -

Just as I guessed... your getting off on the wrong foot in spindle turning pard.   Without getting technical, you'll save yourself a lot of frustration AND get much better calls by not trying to turn them from an appropriately sized branch FWIW.   Shortcuts seldom work out well in most species of hardwoods, but especially this one.    A little research about wood itself on your part will tell you why.
