Walnut & slate. This call has 3 strikers that I'm trying to unsuccessfully tune to this call. Walnut, sassafrass,& white oak. I'm getting high pitched notes from all three with some raspy chords from the white oak. Good volume but I get much better sounds from the Quaker Boy Sidewinder call with these strikers. Maybe I should turn them for Quaker Boy instead. :laf: The sassafrass plays decent purrs tho.  Looks like I'll have about 4 slate calls 7 strikers on me next week. :laf:

Front 1st.

And the back.

BTW-- The timer feature on my camera works purdy good too!! :roflmao:  And I found a new place for the photos. Am I getting lucky,,eerrr uuhmm,, better or what??!! :roflmao:

Hamer, what is the length and diameter of your strikers? Several things can determine the sound from a pot call. What is the distance from the bottom of the slate to the top of the sound board? What is the distance between the bottom of the sound board and the inside bottom of the pot? How thick is the bottom of the pot? What kind of sound board are you using? What kind of glue did you use to secure the sound board and slate? Alot of different factors determine sound. Sometimes some strikers just won't sound right at all with certain calls.

 :readthis: Trade secrets!!

:roflmao:

6 3/4", 7", 7  1/4"

One is 3/16" at the tip & 2 are 1/4"

It's just slate & walnut. No tone board.  :wo:  This is where I lost it huh??

Super glue all the way around for an even seal to hold the slate consistent.

Do the striker sizes sound OK?? I went by a couple factory ones & a custom call I have for those. I didn't realize my custom slate was a slate/slate call until just now.  I'll be working on that little problem.  Thanks!!

Hamer mine average about 8". Strikers that is. :roflmao: 1/4"- 5/16" is average for the diameter. Sounds you might be a little thin there. You really need a sound board to get a good sound. It's hard to get around it. If you are using a 3 1/2" surface, you need a 3" sound board. I have better results using Goop to hold the sound board and surface in. It will hold up longer than the super glue. The size of the holes in the bottom of the pot will affect the sound also. I use 8 evenly spaced 3/8" holes. My center hole is 1" diameter. The distance between the bottom of the calling surface and the top of the sound board should be about 1/8", and the space between the bottom of the sound board and the bottom of the pot is about 1/8"-1/4". You have 2 options for making a pedestal for the sound board to sit on. Either turn a pedestal inside the pot or use a flat washer to rest the sound board on. You are better off turning the pedestal inside the pot. Play around with all these things and you should be able to find the sound you are looking for. Hope all this helps, Brian.

Thanks a bunch!!  Can I do all this with just the faceplate or will I need a 3 jaw chuck??

It's my story and I'm stickin to it. :roflmao:

I use a Talon 4-jaw chuck. It would be hard to do with just a face plate, but it can be done. Brian.
