Can you shoot Hevi-Shot thru chokes marked "lead only"? Or do you have to use a different choke for it? Just wondering if I can shoot Dead Coyote thru a turkey choke marked "lead only". It shoots great patterns with BB loads.  :wo:

This is from Hevi-Shot's website .

Can I use other manufacturers' firearms / choke tube
Any modern shotgun, in good working condition, designed or recommended for use with steel shot, should be suitable for use with Hevi-Shot. We recommend that a consumer contact the manufacturer for its recommendation.

As a result of our extensive testing, we believe that the limited number of rounds used in Turkey Hunting is unlikely to create any more than cosmetic rub marks on chokes not rated for use with steel shot. However, the manufacturer of the choke tube should be contacted concerning its recommendations regarding the suitability for use with Remington Hevi-Shot loads.

What after-market choke tubes are suitable for use with Hevi-Shot
Any choke tube that is manufactured from high-quality steel, such as stainless, should be acceptable for use with Hevi-Shot. Choke tube manufacturers such as Rhino, Patternmaster, Carlson's, Truglo and Trulock offer Turkey choke tubes that are suitable for use with Hevi-Shot.

BB shot is .18 cal and Dead Coyote is T shot .20 cal, I think.  Not much difference.  Most super full choke tubes should be OK because you don't shoot many rounds through it while coyote hunting or turkey hunting.  Goose or duck hunting is a different story (lots of rounds).

Some super full chokes will "blow up" the shot string of high density or hevi shot(cause doughnut holes in the pattern).  So you might try something less restrictive.  Only way to find out is to pattern your gun and your choke.

Thanks, I've never used Hevi-Shot and wasn't sure about it. They knocked $10 off the Dead Coyote here and it's almost tempting to try it.

Jimmie in Ky

If it's in BB or t shot it is well worth the price. I've seen the stuff work ! DRT ! Jimmie

It's Dead Coyote "T" Shot. They knocked it down to $25 a box. Tempting.  :wo:
I'm using Federal copper plate lead BB now.

I got some of that new Remington Wingmaster HD in BB for use at LBL.  3 1/2 inch.  Remington was advertising $15 a box off the price so I thought I'd give that a try.  It shoots real well through a Briley straight rifled extended turkey choke.  .665 diameter.

It's hard to find anything bigger than #4 shot in southeastern Ky besides buckshot. We're nowhere near a flyway for birds so there's not much of a market for those sizes of shot. Nobody stocks them. I have to special order BB loads.
