Leroys Scope!

This old guy Jim Bob that was one of my best friends, passed away now, he had a whole basement full of old guns. He didn't hunt or shoot anymore except for shooting Gray squirrels out of his birdfeeder.

He had a Marlin semi automatic .22 rifle he used for that with iron sights. One day we were bullshitting and he asked me about putting a scope on it, he was about 80 years old then, and his eyes were getting bad and he never used a scope.

I said give me that rifle and I'll set you right up son. The first thing I did was get my laser rangefinder and get the distance from his kitchen window to the birdfeeder which was exactly 17 yards.

Then I took his rifle home and gave it a good cleaning and put a scope base on it and a 1x4 low power scope.

Then I sighted it in dead on for 17 yards. I brought it up to his house and gave it to him and said try this out if you don't like it I'll just take the scope and base off for you.

I didn't see him for about a week or so and on Friday one day after work I gave him a call and asked him how it was working out.

He said I've shot 17 squirrels this week and haven't missed once!.

Then he demanded to pay me for the scope, he was old-school like that, I said don't worry about it it ain't even my scope I borrowed it from Leroy,(my brother)and I said fuch him.

He was laughing his ass off about that, Leroy was a frequent visitor at his house. He kept right on popping squirrels with that gun until he passed away at age 88.

And the whole time he got a kick out of the fact that it was Leroys scope ha ha.

I just remembered he had a perfect set up shooting the squirrels. He had a red fox den right on the edge of his back lawn. Every time he would shoot a squirrel the foxes would hear the gunshot and come running out and grab the squirrel and runoff with them so he didn't have to clean them off his lawn ha ha.

Thats a sweet situation with the built in clean up crew. 
Kinda like the Eagles snagging rabbit carcasses out of my yard when I shoot em. (ok that only happened once that I know for sure)

Those foxes got surprisingly tame, his wife used to feed them scraps, I think a red fox is the prettiest of the wild canines.

Buzzards do about the same thing as the fox. Years back I had a farmer who wanted me to clean the groundhogs out of his fence line. The first afternoon I shot three and went back to days later and found nothing but a couple pieces of hide and bones. I shot two that afternoon and after the first shot a buzzard flew over rather low. Then another one showed up. After that they would show up about five to ten minutes after the first shot. They finally would fly in and land in a tree where they could watch. I took a bunch of groundhogs out of that fence line and the buzzards loved them.
