Hello everyone,
I started this one with the idea of using a 1/2 inch tone board with an o-ring for a closed reed distress call. While playing i ended up putting a grunt gut set in it (Gun deer season opens Saturday here in wisconsin) and this is what i ended up with. It`s Brazilian cherry and Black walnut(sorry the pic is rotated  The square is there as a size reference, it`s 6 inches high) .
Only way to learn is by criticism so let me know what ya think.

Woods wood right? If you make a call out of it they will come LOL.

Bills Custom Calls

Well I think it turned out Pretty darn good Do you get the deep grunt from a wood barrel  Like you would if the expansion tube was oout all the way

I like the shape of the call and it looks like you have a pretty smooth finish on it.  There are a couple of darker rings that show up and I don't know if they are shadows or places that needed to be sanded more.  While I am not an expert on deer calls, I think that attaching the tube will allow you to get additional sounds.  At the same time, you might not need the extra sounds.

Well I certainly wouldn't be ashamed to buy it. :pout:  I think it's a nice looking call as well. I agree with Jerry on the dark rings too. Kinda looks like some finer grits are/were needed. Could be the lighting too tho. Were you thinking the lanyard groove would be one of the finger rings? Or no groove at all? Either way it will fit in your pocket & does look very nice.

JMHO

I can get a pretty deep grunt out of it.Its close to a couple of grunt calls i`ve bought. Cupping the end helps deepen it i also made one out of a cow horn that my brother uses. He wanted a louder call like one he had a few years ago for windy days. That one wasn`t as deep sounding as this one the horn seemed to. I live in Cataract WI. After sunday i won`t be on for over a week. Headed to arizona for thanksgiving with my wifes family.
