Anybody here hunt turkey with a 20 guage? I just got a new Charles Daly semi auto 20 guage and am wondering if it will do the trick on a gobbler

KySongDog

I don't hunt with a 20 ga but there's no reason it won't take out a tom.  Especially if you use 3 inch shells.  For sure, pattern the gun at different ranges, loads, and chokes to see what works best.  Good luck!

I use a 20ga with copper plated 6's & the factory full choke for turkeys here in Ohio. Keep your shots under 35yds & you should do fine.

This years 19lb 8" bearded Tom @ 19yds.

This years 15lb 6" bearded Jake up close & personal.

My 1st Tom a few years ago. A very nice 21lb'er with a 10 1/4" beard & 1 1/4" spurs.

This one was shot at close to 40yds. I broke his neck but had to choke him out.    I still hate that feeling so now I use much better judgment & my rangefinder as soon as I set up.

what they said already, I used a 20 for years before I got my first 12 guage.  Mine dont even have the 3 inch chamber but I always kept my shots 25 yards.  Killed my first bird with it at the age of 12 using 2 3/4  6 shot pheasnt load.

Thanks Joe!! Altho I wouldn't call it work. :laf: :laf:

Most every 20ga comes 3" chambered nowadays but just double check to make certain you are getting one that is. I don't think a 20ga 2 3/4" is quite enough. JMHO

Here's more proof that a 20 gauge will do the job.
