Why are they still on the ground, shouldn't they be roosting?

Good question.       They should be on the roost unless something scared them out the trees right at dark and they can't fly up again.   I have heard of that happening but I've never seen it for myself.

I do know that bobcats will go after them in the roost.

It was a very dark day and raining when this pic was taken, they were out in a field feeding along with a nice doe, when I took the pic my camera was set on auto mode so it used flash...
Ive seen birds out until it was very late feeding.

I jumped a gobbler off the ground at like 2 in the morning once this year........ I think Dave was with me, I did not understand it .........But it happened.....right in an open , mowed grassy area. This was back in May.

Ive seen em real early n real late...im guessing with their phenomenal eye sight and the eye-glow factor like a deer they have some pretty danged good low-light/night vision.
