A Guernsey County, Ohio man plead guilty to three wildlife charges including; taking a deer during a closed season, possessing an untagged deer and hunting without a valid hunting license two weeks ago.

Gregory A. Boley, 22, was sentenced yesterday for the illegal taking of a white-tailed buck according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.

Wildlife officers began investigating Boley after receiving a tip that someone illegally shot a deer in the county on July 15. Inside Boley’s home, officers found a buck in full velvet that he had shot with a .270 rifle.

Boley was ordered to pay full restitution, fines and court cost totaling $3,891.43. Boley was also sentenced to 10 days of suspended jail time, a two year hunting license revocation, two years probation and forfeiture of the rifle used to kill the deer.

I am proud to say that my cousin helped sponsor the legislation that made it possible for courts to not only fine an illegal hunter slob, but also that they had to pay restitution.  A few years ago this slob would have lost his license and maybe had a couple hundred dollar fine.  I like it much better this way.

In Kentucky, IIRC, a guy forfeited his license, gun, and TRUCK plus paid a whopping multi thousand dollar fine for poaching.   Poaching is frowned upon in Kentucky.  :eyebrownod:
