Thats true. You gotta work it Scott to be able to do anything with it.

To give you an idea. Brent gave me mine at a PM hunt down in Globe AZ. I practiced blowing that thing all the way home in a vehicle, and still could do it very well at the end of that trip. (28 hours)
I think it took me a week or so.

Another latex reed E.L.K. call that gets overlooked is the Yote Howler. It is not super loud but it does make some nice howls.

You fellows never watched Kee cut one then . He borrowed my pocket knife once and proceded to cut several from a glove and give them to somebody for replacements. He and I then proceded to discuss the disadvantages of the things. Jimmie

Well fill us in on all these disadvantages of an E.L.K as a dedicated howler.

Cant seem to think of none other than changing the reeds more frequent..

I think the biggest misconception is the sound doesn't travel as far.

I heard from a friend that you couldn't be very aggressive on one. I can be just as aggressive on my elk howler then on a reeded howler. and the whole deal of the sound not traveling far is bs IMO.

If a coyote can hear a mouse squeak at 500 yards he can probably hear a latex call from a mile or three.

I know those power howlers work for some people. On more than one occasion, with his Keeâ€™s Elk/horn howler, Iâ€™ve seen Bop work in coyotes (groups, pairs and singles) from distances way further than I would have ever expected they would ever come from.
Once upon a time I even tried one of those factory ELK Power Howlers. Although I have heard Kee, Bopeye and several other coyote men make those howlers talk. I canâ€™t get the durn things to sound anything like a live coyote, ruptured moose maybe. After days of failure I finally ended up giving mine to Bop. On the other hand, I have a couple of the yote howlers like Semp pictured above. I like them. One I put the white band on and the other the green band, with different reedsâ€¦ two different howls/barks. Different strokes for different folks, I reckon.

I left a whole lot of punctuation and letters off one of them words which changes it all

and still could do it very well at the end of that trip, should have been , and still couldn't do it very well at the end of that trip

Here is one I worked on for awhile but never got it to sound just right
so I put it off to the side and ain't got back to it yet

That wear and subsequent replacement of hte reed is hte biggest problem I see. Which could lead to some inconsistancy in how well you work it. It's saving grace is you can pick up replacements at Walmart

I too have wondered about other ways we could accomplish this type of sound Bill, with a lot less work than you have put into it

There has got to be someway to make the tube calls work in this manner. Keeping the sound , but getting rid of the hard to find cowhorn that works with it. Jimmie

From the size of the trees in the background, what do you do? Put it on a flatbed truck and get it up to about 70 MPH to howl?
