For backyard squirrels and pigeons what would you guys recommend, 17 or 22? Also does the breech kit fit both or must you order for the specific model?

What? No step-by-step narrative! Sigh. So do you like it?....JohnP, I have always heard people say .177 caliber for feathers .22 caliber for fur. The .22 is a lot heavier but I think slower and has a lower trajectory, the .177 is faster and better trajectory, I have taken squirrels pigeons etc. with both. I would go with the 22. My Benjamin discovery rifle is in .22 caliber. As far as the steel breeches they are different for each caliber there is a 22 caliber and 17 caliber or 1377 or 1322. For the price of the guns they are extremely accurate, as Mr. Champion and hundreds of online reviews will attest. I have more fun shooting them than any other guns I own. And you can't beat the cost of the ammo. I was just looking at 2 tins of Crossman .22 caliber hollow points I have with 500 pellets in each tin thinking to myself I have 1000 rounds right here in my hand for about $12!..You can also get a shoulder stock for them if you like, and if you like to tinker the modifications Are just about endless that you can get for them. There are even really fancy wooden grips you can get for them.

I was completely disgusted with the piece of paper that came with it as the directions. It looked like a photocopy of a faxed photocopy. You couldnt read nothing on it.
But I was quickly hushed once I started tackling it blind, as it was pretty easy and took maybe 30 minutes.

Got the 1322 ordered today from Amazon, $54.95 plus $8.46 shipping. Could not find a breech, any suggestions? The one on the Crosman site is out of stock.

Got it ordered! $34.95 plus $9.81 shipping. I can see that this is going to be another costly hobby. Had to do some measuring at the new place so while there I looked for a kill area. We have a breakfast nook off the kitchen with a window that faces the backyard. Figure I can put a bird feeder out there and shoot all day long. Maybe this civilized living ain't going to be to bad.

....what are you going with for a sight system JohnP?....mine were great with open sights....the laser is good except in bright conditions and slower to get on target...really loving the red dot sight on handguns!

No idea what I'm going to put on it. I have a high dollar red dot that I could put on it but I bought it for my TC. I also have a couple of inexpensive fixed 4's that I could try. Then again I could buy a Leupold 4-24x50 for those shots beyond 15 yards. What's that hi-tech gizmo Jim has on his?

I really like the red dot on my 1377.. The laser is pretty fun target shooting but on moving targets like squirrels kind of difficult especially in the bright sun. I have also used a scope which works pretty slick too. I am going to put another red dot on my 1322.

I too like the red dot scopes BUT the brightness always enters into the situation out here. I am going to start off with an old Weaver 4x that has been collecting dust for the past 30 years. Got an e-mail from Amazon that my pistol has shipped.

Got my pistol today and the breech. Have to agree with Jim on the directions, I can't even see the directions let alone read them. May have to ship the gun off to Jim and have him do it for me.
