A cousin and I fished on Sat. and got our limit, though it was mostly slow and took several hours to get four legal salmon in the boat.

They raised the limit this year from one to two fish per angler, but only in our fishing area, so the whole state converges here.

We fished near Bachelor Rock, a beautiful section of cliffs and kelp beds.  Salmon were chasing bait fish to the surface in the kelp and we cast to specific swirls at times. My cousin caught one that way.  We got a double header once when we each hooked a salmon at the same time.  Mine went 13 lbs. Cousin's salmon was right at 20 lbs. but we lost it when it was partly in the net.  I had a fish on at the same time so he was playing the fish and netting it himself.  Doggone.

I'm losing count but have landed at least 17 salmon so far this season, in three outings.  Have kept the legal limit of six and released the rest either because they were smaller than our usual ten lb. we prefer, or they were unclipped fish with a fin.  A clipped adipose fin indicts a hatchery fish, which is legal to keep.  A fin indicates either that it was spawned in a stream rather than a hatchery, or that the hatchery missed clipping that one (which happens a LOT).  Salmon with an adipose fin are not legal to keep.

Solo supper tonight.  I have given away most or served it to voracious family and am still craving fresh salmon so grilled up a chunk this evening in a wire fish basket.  Alder wood coals in our patio fire pit.  Lucked into getting it just barely done, retaining ideal moisture and flavor.

Got some left over to make a sandwich tomorrow.
