I flat out love line counter reels for salmon jigging in salt water.  In combination with fish finder sonar that shows depth, you can put your lure precisely the depth you want and or a precise distance from the bottom or a bottom structure.

Twice this year I have spotted a specific fish on the screen, dropped to that exact depth and had an instant hook up.

We don't look for salmon on the fish finder as much as we look for schools of bait and a depth we prefer, but seeing salmon on the fish finder is a nice bonus.

They use those a lot up here for trolling for salmon and Lake Trout.

Technology at work. What will they think up next?

I'm looking forward to the autonomous remote fish blasting drone.

I bought one for Walleye fishing up in Canada years ago, which was jigging also. And yes it was a big help for working suspended fish.
Thats about all they are good for, jigging or trolling.
I forgot I had one out there until you mentioned it :laf:

It would appear that Jim has too many reels.   :innocentwhistle:

I only have 20 toes and fingers so that counting reel might help me 🐟🐟🐟😉
