I've always wanted a cabin to hang out at but since my 100-acre playground is only 3 miles from my home and there is a house close by, I kinda felt like it was a dumb idea...until recently. I got to thinkin', guys need a place to roast some hotdogs or seer some deer steaks, play cards until late, and just a general hang out area, so I decided to build a shanty.

I meandered through YouTube to get some ideas and stumbled on a couple of brothers. One's channel is Bushradical and the other is Black Spruce, the Whipple brothers. Bushradical had a fairly simple design that I am going to mimic for the most part.

So here is the start. I cleaned off the only decent location that happens to be about a 3/8 acre clearing. The rest of the property is either too steep or inaccessible.

Didn't work on it yesterday. My missus scheduled an appointment for her mom's truck and her Bronco for yesterday morning and didn't tell me and it rained all afternoon.

Made a little progress today though. The Big Dawg said he is getting excited. Hopefully I can have it buttoned up and we can work on the inside when he comes home for Thanksgiving.

Right now, the site is only accessible by side by side, four-wheel drive tractor, or foot.

This is all I was able to get done today. I was hoping to get the joists hung, insulation in the floor and get the floor down today. Maybe tomorrow.

Love it! That's pretty much what we're going to do with ours.

Not much progress today. Had to do some honey do's for my mother in law, but that was ok because her farm is halfway between us and Pennsboro WV where the Simonton window outlet is. So I got the little jobs done and picked up another window for the shanty.

Simonton window outlet, the land of misfit windows. When the big box stores like Home Depot has returns, orders that are refused, double orders, over stocks, etc, they all go to this store until someone provides a happy home for them. Only the Simonton windows though, not Sprouse, Anderson, etc.

Found a nice vinyl double hung insulated 48 x 36. Only $85

So far I got 3 windows from there. This one for $85, a 2'x3' crank out window for $85, and a 16"x24" crank out for $65. I priced these out retail at a little over a grand for all of them.

It is starting to take shape and a good foundation is always necessary.
