I am not saying you are totaly wrong, Just that a male coyote will go after a female dog. I have observed this and/or the result of this many times and no one has studied my findings.
Coyotes may just want to kill the dog, or curious  I do not know, but I do know a female dog in heat will attract a coyote in some cases I have seen this for myself and for me that beats the heck out of anything written. Moss dont grow on my boots when it comes to coyotes and I aint no expert........But I can not ignore facts observed for myself no matter what.

Jimmie in Ky

I myself ythink it is the blood that causes them to follow along. A food response gets triggered or perhaps a territorial one I am not sure. I know they are curious as a cat and will eat anything that ain't tied down and some that is  Jimmie

I agree Jimmie, I do not think it is a sex thing, but I will never say it is not. But there is something to it and I will use it to my advantage when I can.
