Here's a couple things I consider "big deals" in my area.

This viaduct built in 1847 is all hand cut stone from the area.  Pretty facinating how it all came together with the arches.  Its still in use today.

The second thing is really no big deal but it is something we have here.  I havent been there since I was a kid in high school.  Costs way TOO MUCH now days lol.  Every once in a while we do visit for the fall foilage lift to the top.

Purdy cool stuff. Especially the viaduct.  :yoyo:

There is a good bit of history from my area at this one link. The Revolutionary War link down the page has history that happened within a few miles of where I grew up & live today.

This carving museum is known worldwide. Mooney Warther was a true craftsman & considered to be a genius by many folks. I have been thru this museum a couple times & enjoyed it very much.

David Zeisberger was at the Gnadenhutten Indian Massacre when it happened. He escaped after it was over. He survived by hiding under the steps of a dirt floor cabin in a hole that had been dug out to store supplies.

My hometown in Groton, VT, home of William Scott.

"There is a monument located on Scott Hwy (Hwy 302), about 1 mile west of Groton dedicated to Pvt William Scott, the Sleeping Sentinel.  He fell asleep while on picket duty, sentenced to death, but pardoned by President Lincoln.  He continued to be a good soldier and died a heroic death in the Campaign against Richmond."

Al,
I didn't know you did the blenn.... Island deer hunt.  Mike and I did the first one.  He drew a buck tag and killed a nice one.  The only deer I saw was small, not much bigger than a little dog.  Stunted growth I think???

How you feeling?  We going to be able to get out some evening this week??

Jim
You can't kill 'em from the recliner!!

alscalls

I am feeling much better today........

I killed a doe the first year with a doe tag only and had to pass two nice bucks to shoot it.
The second year i watched a 7 point for 2-1/2 hrs. and was running out of time so I shot the 7 point with just a couple of min. to spare.......When we drove off the driver said look boys there he is.......a huge 13 point not 40 yds. from my stand stood up and stretched... :doh2: I never knew he was there. :laf:
But how many guys can say they shot a buck on the island

Cathryn, did you notice this 3min vid for the crafts fair ?  http://www.msacf.com/video.html  :yoyo:
I think Al's Calls needs to bring a lathe there next year and turn some calls for the folks

Alscalls, I was wondering if you ever thought of making some custom smoking pipes?....I was looking at some in the cigar shop one day $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.....very nice wood too though.

alscalls

I have made spoons, benches, ladels, turkey calls, the old fashioned way with a hatchet and a draw knife but no pipes yet.

Al, you should see about setting up a booth out there. you could make some good money im sure if ya had the calls ready for sale. last year they had discussed moving it to the cottageville fairgrounds but nothing ever came of it.

there also the flea market out at the Fairplain livestock market that week and its always fun to go to. ya can find all kind of neat tresures.

tAt he Ars and Crafts fair they like for you to work on your craft while your there so that people can watch and ask questions.

i remember the glass blowing booth when i was younger.

i still got the green glass bunny that the guy made for me.
theres a booth charge but it isnt that much, least it didnt used to be.

nastgunz.. he aint got much sense, btu we all knew that already

silencer i can t watch videos but i go out there most every year. its only like 20 miles or so from my house.

alscalls

Problem is everytime I get one done it is sold.......I can never get a batch done that lasts long enough......I may have more free time this summer to do some we will see........

i was figuring that you probably had em sold before you made them.

with the volume of people that go out there, i think youd need to have a BUNCH done in advance cause im sure people would want to buy the calls.

alscalls

I am gonna have to do something if jobs do not pick up. :rolleye:
