Well I gave it my best today.   :rolleye:  I'm hoping it will hold up since Ohio crow ended today. I did lose the 1st bird of the AM. It glided several hundred yards off over to property the County owns & is strictly posted nowadays. So after starting 1 for 3 & no birds on the ground I started to warm up a little. I hit the next 3 then promptly missed the next 4 shots.  :rolleye:  After setting there for a few minutes with no birds I calmed down. Then I went 10 for 14!! Oh yeah Al I was coming for your 12 bird total big guy!!  :yoyo:

Here's the pic from the 1st set. I like to call it "The Carnage Shot".  There is 14 crows & one deke on the far left.

And this one's for you Vic!!

"Here's Your Sign!!"  :laf:

I ended the day with 15 "Good" crows.  :yoyo:

Dont think I'll have the time to make it back out again.  Maybe on the 28th if little league practice doesnt start up.

Hamer, what was your set-up ?  Feeding, agressive owl ???   Or did you run n gun em ?

HaMeR

Barry--  :doh2:  Sorry I didn't respond to your post. I haven't started the book yet. I go to the bone Doc this evening so I'll lounge out later & start it.

I know you would Al. I even waited til after dark to post these pic so you didn't have time to run over here to Ohio & bust another 1/2 dozen!!  :hahaha:

Thanks Hidehunter!! My best day by myself is 20. I've hit that twice. My Brother & I killed 34 one AM. He dusted me purdy good. I think I only had 14 that day. That sign idea was from Silencer with the shells up there.   I didn't scout these birds so I didn't bother to make a sign.  :laf:

     :wo:   You know if I give away all my secrets what I'll have to do right Vic??!!  :laf: :laf:

The 2nd rock pile from right to left you can see my brown coat against the big tree in the background. I was setting against that tree. I shot them all thru the branches above me as they flew over. I had one come in & just as it started to swoop up to land on a branch I pounded it from about 18-20yds.  :eyebrownod:  Man the feathers flew from that one!!  :eyebrownod: I set 6 full bodied dekes out to the left of the pic. I set the FX3 next to one. We keep the dekes about 30yds out in front of us. It was a feeding setup. Once the geese starting flying get ready. The crows are next to start squawking. I like to use a hand call at 1st to just bring a bird or two in at a time. This is when I keep the caller set on a crow distress or dyeing crow. Hit the e-caller when you shoot & the birds flair. The distress can & sometimes does bring them back for round 2. Then when this dies off I go to the e-caller. I like to use FP's crow party. It's non-threatening & seems to be inviting. Now the crows can come in 10 at a time so be locked & loaded. When the flair from the shooting hit the crow distress on the e-caller. This will work for a while too. Then when that sound dies off it's time to crank it up. I use the crow fight on full volume. This is when if there are more than a handful of birds around it's nice to have another shooter. Cause now the whole bunch of em are gonna come!! It's great too. Then when this dies off,, which is usually purdy quick,, I'll just set & watch for anymore birds off in the distance & wait a little while. I'll hit the crow party once in a while for a couple  minutes & see if there are any new birds in the area.  The one thing I've found that sometimes helps too is that once you have the same number of dekes & crows on the ground bag the dekes up. The birds in the carnage pic were all placed there with wings laid back & their beaks stuck in the dirt.

If you want to know anything else just holler. I'll try to help.  :yoyo:

I use a good quality high brass factory 7-1/2 when I can and mix in all those.......... I do not know what to do with shells, I got laying around the house so I can get rid of them.

Vic-- Coming from the Family that I come from we use reloads.  :eyebrownod:  My Brother tunes everything for me. It's something he just loves to do & is very meticulous at it. For the most part I use 7 1/2's. I've tried 8's & really like them too. Plus with the smaller shot you get a lot more shot in each shell. Have you patterned your shotgun at 35yds with 7 1/2's or different chokes??

Bill-- If you would have gotten into the crows like I did yesterday you would start making crow calls & leave the land roamers to others.  :laf:

Al-- I shoot all low brass. It loads easier. Using those oddball shells up on crows doesn't really seem like a waste when you smoke some crows does it??  :eyebrownod:

Vic,
if you look at it like this.......
The small strands of a feather bound together being hit by a larger dia. shot grabs the shot on entry and slows it down.
The smaller shot gets grabbed by less strands causing less friction upon entry slipping more easily through to the body.

Glen,
A factory high brass is hotter than a factory low brass and that is what I meant.
I used to reload shot shells and man I tell ya you can load a low brass hull hotter than any factory low brass load and even hotter than some high brass loads......I do Love the 7-1/2 hot loads for crow I have made some long shots with it outa my turkey gun..... :eyebrow:
