MineLab Xterra 70 with a Ace Garrett 250 as backup or extra if a landowner or friend wants to join in. I picked up a Garrett pinpointer earlier this year and since Ive yet to lose a target. I havent went out much this year because of my sons baseball ect.  Me and my mding partner mainly hunt relics. This year we have found a ton of square nails, harmonica reed and a few other things not worth mentioning. I plan on hunting alot more this Fall when the ground is not like cement.

man its been years but I use to love to swipe my Uncles old Whites detector and hit the creek banks and woods around here some of the fun stuff we found over years between me my uncle and my brothe in law were old mini balls and bullets from the civil war belt buckles and buttons also from both union and confederate army many coins and nails and of course the ever popular pop pull tabs my frist really cool find was a half dollar piece from 1890's man i got to get me a new detector and introduce Logan to this fun hobby
there's something you better understand about me, 'cause it's important and one day your life may depend on it. I am definitely a madman with a box!

I have a Whites DFX and I love it. Easy to use but full of advanced functions and features.

Neatest thing I ever found was a silver serving set. looked like it was all packed away when the garage it was in burned down back in the 1880's wasnt very deep but deep enough to have to have a detector to find it.

Need to get it out again this weekend and see what I can find after all the fireworks are over

Ive never had much interest in coin shooting but should, like you said a place after the 4th festivities would be good  :-)   .

Oh man your missing out if you dont hit places the people gather. I have found pocket knives, coins and jewlery  after big yard type events. I like to hit up the areas after garden tractor pulls.

I've often thought they'd be a lot of fun, and even kind of handy
in the retrieval of a few "stray" arrows through the years  :innocentwhistle:.
But, I never wanted to spend the big bucks on a good one. They look like
they can get pretty spendy, and it's one of those things that I'm not sure
in all actuality how much it would get used to justify the cost of a good one.
Any opinions on any that still work good, but wouldn't break the bank ?

Havent gone metal detectoring in YEARSSSSSS.
But it reminds of when I was 14 years old. My first job was a paperboy, and I started doing that when I was 13. I had me a big ole route and made just under a hundred bucks a week.

I seen an (at the time), awesome metal detector in the Radio Shack flyer one day. It was like 250 bucks, much more then I thought could afford.
Since I was billed weekly for the papers and what was left after paying for the papers was my profit, I figured if I bought this baby early enough in the week, I could find enough money using it, to pay my paper bill at the end of the week. Since I'd need to spend that money to get this thing. That way I wouldn't have to save and wait.

I didn't find enough money with it to pay the paper bill that week. And when my Pa found out what I did, I thought he was gonna wrap that metal detector around my ass. :sad3:

That's funnier than heck.  :laf:

My wife still pulls that crap from time to time. I don't find it near as funny then.  :madd:

Yeah good detectors are expensive. Mine was way more than I wanted to spend but it works beautifully. It takes a long time to get your investment back unless you get lucky big time.

you can check out Whites they have a few that are in the 100-300 range that work well. Tosoro is also a good one. BUT be carefull. Its like anyother hobbie. Once you get the bug you want the bigger better one.

Do you use that " pattern " to try and eliminate whether its sensing the plate in your head or not?  :innocentwhistle:
