Guys,

I'm thinking about taking a trip out West for a coyote hunt.  I understand Wyoming might be a good destination for a hunt.  Maybe try a few stands in South Dakota on the way?  Do any of you guys have any information on hunting these states?  Any help would be appreciated!

Made several trips to Wyoming Speedgoat and Muledeer hunting and have spanked a few yote's in the process! The best advise I can give is if youve never been I would make it a point to go! Ton's of Federal land and if ya can get to know a few locals yiou will have more land than you can hunt! The county we Antolope hunt in is over run with yotes and matter of fact the Gentleman that let's us hunt his ranch, His grandson is over the office that takes care of predation problems for that region............Man let me tell ya......They are KILLER'S!!! They shoot em from planes they catch em in deep snow and hit em with Snowmachines they kill them anyway they can other than hunting em the way we do. He told me last year he killed like 1200 just in his region and I dont think that takes up the whole county before anyone start's hollering about the way they kill em thats sheep country and thats how they make a living so I spect I'd do the same thing!

From my reading - WY doesn't require a license to hunt varmints, but SD do.

You telling me they allow aliens or non residents to come and hunt their critters without compensation .  That would be rare for a fact.

Guys,

I am looking at the area West of Rawlins and South of I-80 on Google Earth.  Hopefully late September??  Anyone have any knowledge of this area??  I have never been there.  Need all the help I can get.

I got an aunt and uncle in Gillette and a cousin that lives in Rawlins. Give me a holler tomorrow so I can talk with you a bit and then I'll get in touch with Gary and see if he is up to putting you on to some land. He's kind of a butthole and we rarely have much to say to each other, as a matter of fact I haven't spoke with him since my grandma died in '02. We buried her in Sterling Colorado and he acted like he was really put out with having to drive all the way down to go to her funeral. Poor little jerk had to drive a few hours.  :rolleye:
It took me two days of hard driving to get there. We stayed the night just east of St. Louis and then drove the rest the way in. This guys bitched like he had to take a space shuttle or soemthing. Not trying to scare you off from him, because he can be a pretty decent fella at times, but just wanted to warn ya.

All that aside, he is an avid mule deer, antelope and elk hunter, so if you get him on those subjects he will talk your ear off. He has been in the strip mines out there for over 20 years and makes a pretty good living, so he might even be able to take you out, but don't count on it. Like I said, he can be a jerk.

Give me a shout Frogman.

I lived there as a kid. It's pretty desolate, but gorgeous. It isn't too far from Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, and if you head west you can get right into the mountains pretty quick.
My number has been pm'd.

The area we hunt is right on top of Rawlins........Medicine Bow. Just a Little advice for ya! If ya dont have any really warm clothes..........Get ya some! The weather is most unpredictable It can be 70 one minute and blowing snow the next! Year before last we got caught in the early Blizzerd in mid Sept. and it dumped 10inches of snow overnight. One more thing, It's the only place in the world I've been where you can get rained in! When it rain's the dirt road's turn into something that I've never seen before!!!!!! And travel by 4x4 is nearly impossible without chains on all four tire's.

If ya go be sure and eat at the Virginian in Medicine Bow, really good food!

Oh yea......Take me with ya! I cant get the Yotehntr to go he's too Skeeeered :alscalls:

Yeah, it's that red clay Doug. When you walk in it, the crap won't come off your feet. It just keeps accumulating on your shoes or boots until you have a massive clay ball on each foot.
When we were kids, my mother would get so put out with us stomping that crap all through the house.  :eyebrownod:
Dad worked the oil fields, so he would have oil and that clay on him. He would be an absolute mess. Mom would get mad all over again.  :laf:

BTW, Yotehunter Brad!! YOUR A WEINER!!  :alscalls:

Guys,

Thanks for all the great info.

I may need to postpone my Wyoming trip for a while.  The wife is attending a banking conference in Las Vegas the middle of September.  This was the time frame I had for the Wyoming trip.  If I join her in Vegas I will only have to pay my airfare and food.  Probably can not afford both trips.  I have been to Vegas several times for the scuba conventions so I don't much care about seeing the sights again.  The wife will be in conference sessions during the day.  I was hoping to locate a coyote hunter in or near Vegas that could take me hunting a couple of days??  I'd be happy to pay for the gas!
