Pics and story to come..........

I love to leave you fellas hangin.  :nono:

This one fooled us. We sat there in blind this morning, and they gobbled like crazy on the roost, but they were all henned up. At about 7:30, this thing walked to the left of the blind. At first look, it looked like a bearded hen, so my freind tells me......"hey shoot this bearded hen" I at first am thinking, he is messin with me and wants me to shoot his decoy.  :nono: But I looked out and seen it walking and layed the smack down on it. After lookin at it, we determined that it was actually a jake. Either way, it was a legal bird and taste the same.

Born and raised in the southern highlands of Appalachia, I'm just an ol' country boy who enjoys calling coyotes... nothing more, nothing less.

:wo:  You sure thats a Jake?? Seems to have a full fan. Maybe his beard had broken off over the winter from freezing rain. Just thinking outloud.    He's still a nice trophy no matter how you look at him. Nice job!!  :highclap: :highclap:

See how the feathers stick up in the middle on my Jake? My 8" bearded Tom only had 1/4" spurs last year too.

This is the only jake pic I have, I have only shot mature toms and passed on jakes but I have no problem with shooting one It just extends my season. You can see his longer feathers even with his tail down.( This is a game camera pic)
I have seen birds with a short beard due to a mite that eats the beard. Looks like someone cut it with scissors, and sometimes a little brown at the end of the beard. I think Joe's bird is an almost mature bird, look at the two out side feathers...they are shorter. Could this be? How big were the spurs Joe?
