Well with all the trials and tribulations associated with getting ready out of my road now I'm pumped. I'll be pulling out at 6am for the LBL and I hope to see a couple of you there, cause if this is an elaborate conspiracy to get a Canadian to spend money in the US to help the economy I'm going to enjoy my trip anyway :wink:.

Well after driving for 12 hours, 963 kms and two borders I'm at Glendive. :yoyo: Roads were great until I hit one of the borders :innocentwhistle: and I saw maybe 150 muleys, 100 antelope, 8 sharptails, 57 pheasants[2 dead on the road didn't get counted or picked up cause they were hens], 9 coyotes and one wreck.
We're glad to see you made it thru customs without going to jail. :yoyo: Y'all have a safe trip on down this way.

Guys I made it to Sauk Centre Mn and 5 Shots made it to Bismark :eyebrow:. We should have started a map of where people live cause I don't know :sleep:. Saw one coyote in North Dakota and a swack of deer, with a few pheasants thrown in. I learned something today :yoyo:, you guys got these rest stop thingys along your highways :confused:[We got side roads :shrug:] and Art pulls in[guess he was finding side roads :biggrin:]. Well I walks in and heads for the mens washroom and there was no light :argh:, I feels around the wall and no switch :argh: :argh: and then this kid[about yeah high :hahaha:] just walks past me. Presto lights :iroll: and the little :puke: turns around and gives me a :rolleye: :rolleye:. Next time I'll walk in like that and probably bust my nose :readthis:.

I sure am glad that you are getting to see a few two legged birds (Hooters) and not just four legged animals on your trip. There aren't as many owls (Hooters) around here right now, but they will be back in the summer. As for traffic, you need to hit Chicago during rush hours. I don't really know why they call it rush since no one is going very fast. Maybe it is just because they would like to rush.
You need to give a more accurate location than "burg". How can we plot your progress if we don't even know where you are. At least give us a state.

So there I was driving down the road today. Twas a beautiful day to be out & about on daily travels. The weather was juuuust a tad nipply & the wind would ever so slightly sway the weeds along the highway. The kind of day where you just kinda daydream about the forthcoming events. Like the LBL for instance. My thoughts turned to Barry & his long journey just to meet up with some good folks from another part of this Continent. Then I started thinking about his post where the co-driver fell asleep & gave him hell when he woke up. Then there was the post where he mentioned heading NNW AFTER leaving Jim's house. :roflmao: :roflmao: :whew: It was definitely an enjoyable trip today. It made work go good I would have to say. :biggrin:
But not even those thoughts could prepare me for what I was about to see. I rounded the bend on the curvy two lane St Rt 3S & dropped down off the smallish hill into the bottoms. I had Diane's Monte under me & the cruise was set on 63MPH. And not those damn slower than the rest of the Continents KMH's either. :biggrin: Anywho the road stretched out in front of me like a ribbon as it gently rose & fell in the distant foreground. And that is when I seen this all too familiar sight.

Barry , I wish you could have stayed a lot longer. I really enjoyed our time together and wish we could have had more of it. Its not often I meet folks with a like mind about keeping history alive and teaching as much a possible to the next generation. That is a beautifull picture of the St Louis arch. The gate way to the west. It is a memorial to the pioneers that first settled the lands west of the Mississippi.
A few facts about the arch
The Arch is the tallest national monument in the United States at 630 feet; it is the city's best known landmark and a popular tourist attraction.
Construction began February 12, 1963 and the last section of the Arch was put into place on October 28, 1965.
The Arch is a structure known as a catenary curve, the shape a free-hanging chain takes when held at both ends, and considered the most structurally-sound arch shape. The span of the Arch legs at ground level is 630 feet, the same as its height.
Each year, approximately a million visitors ride the trams to the top of the Arch. The trams have been in operation for over 30 years, traveling a total of 250,000 miles and carrying over 25 million passengers.
The Arch weighs 17,246 tons. Nine hundred tons of stainless steel was used to build the Arch, more than any other project in history.
The Arch was built at a cost of $13 million. The transportation system was built at a cost of $3,500,000.
In order to ensure that the constructed legs would meet, the margin of error for failure was 1/64th of an inch. All survey work was done at night to eliminate distortion caused by the sun's rays. Since the Arch was constructed before the advent of computer technology, relatively crude instruments were used for these measurements.
The Arch sways a maximum of 18" (9" each way) in a 150 mph wind. The usual sway is 1/2".

It is neat in your arch pic you can see the storm front movnig in at the bottom of the pic.
