of these calls (I can take it lol). I'm pretty new at making calls, so I could use some honest feedback.

I make these by hand (no lathe....my hands are my lathe) out of borosilicate.
First time that I can remember seeing calls made from glass. Do you have your own glass blowing set up or are you doing it at a college? Having watched my wife work glass in college (many years ago) I can say that it isn't easy and you have done a nice job on them.

Thanks. To my knowledge, these are the very firstl borosilicate game calls. I work out of a shop space I rent.
Thems cool. I would love to hear one. That glass has to give them a diffrent sound than wood or plastic.
They are glass?? Wow.
I was planning my reply as I looked through the pics, which was going to start with something like...."I dont really care for the shape, but now that I hear they are glass....that put's a whole new spin on things.
Very interesting thats for sure. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more about these.

These calls are just now starting to hit the field. Should start hearing some feedback on them soon. I am going to get with a friend of mine that has some recording equipment so I can record some calling with them, and post what they sound like.
You could send one to me if you want to see it beside a dead coyote :innocentwhistle:.

Tried to send you a message, but can't view your profile/find an e-mail.
He's mooching Butcher45 :alscalls:
They are pretty slick. I have no idea about that material. I'm assuming it's not real fragile? Have you give any thought as how to attatch a lanyard on them?

I try to create a constriction in the shape so the loop doesn't travel much if at all. I have considered adding rings of raised glass to form a groove between them, using a tool to form a groove in the glass, putting strategically placed marbles around it...... The toneboards I just started using have lanyard grooves built-in (as seen on a few of these calls) so that frees-up what I can do with the shaping quite a bit.
They might break if you dropped them onto a hard surface from a good height.....borosilicate is more durable than one might think when they think "glass".
You can PM him, moocher...he just cant PM back...yet.
PM him your email address and pick up the conversation.
I cant believe I just led you through that. :doh2:
It sounds like your options are limitless in things you can do with these calls. How much will you be selling them for or haven't you thought that far ahead?

Lots of options for sure. I can shape the chamber of the call any way I want. I'll put some calls up for sale here pretty quick. Just getting started selling them. I guarantee everything I sell (will even pay for return shipping), and only send out what I would hunt with myself.
Have calls will haggle (haggle.....means you gotta come off of SOMETHING to get one hehe). Well......OK it's FinsNFur's house so I guess I'll send him a couple calls.
I'll post-up some calls for sale here pretty quick.

Not sure if I'm missing an inside joke or not........ I will be working on some sqwerl calls in the future.
He showed a pic of a squirrel a little while back so I was wondering. :alscalls: :alscalls:
I'd sure take any of them you showed off your hands though if they sound anything like a Canadian animal in distress :readthis:.
I know they use the same material to make "pipes" with and them things hold up fairley well.
That clear brownie pan you all probably have in the kitchen......same material.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeey dual purpose :yoyo: :yoyo: I like that and I would sure like to see an electronic call boast about something this cool. :laf: :laf:
Barry,
Glass calls can only replicate US animals. Really sorry about that.
Butcher,
There are many stories that have drifted around FnF (Fins and Fur) for quite some time. As you are here a little longer you will get to where you know most of them. Some are only told after you learn the secret handshake and go through your initiation. You do have to have (25 I think) posts before you can start sending PMs to members. It helps reduce the chance of a spammer getting through the background check and trying to sell Viagra to everyone (except Cathryn). We do have our own form of spammer (goes by the name of Todd Rahm) and claims to be a call collector and when he sees your work he will be contacting you.
Have fun here,
Jerry
I put a few calls up for sale in the Hand Call Store.
I'm not into acrylic & I'm thinking "big deal :iroll: "
The more I looked at 'em the more I realized they were glass. :shock2: :thumb2:
Glass blowing is one craft I've always wanted to do!!! :eyebrow:
The horn style howler is sweet! :bowingsmilie:
Maybe in the near future you can show us how you make your calls by video or pix sequence. :eyebrow:
Those sure are pretty!!
Jim
I have to say at first I was really wondering then when I saw that you make them from glass I was :bowingsmilie: man that is a real interesting way to make some very fine looking calls :yoyo: :highclap: will have to get a few from you at some point or another for sure keep up the great work
I would order up a few too if butcher would post 2 more times.

I check my e-mail several times a day it's in my profile.
It will be a couple of weeks before I can make another cowhorn-style howler (or any calls I don't already have made-up)....I'm setting-up a whole new shop. Hoping I can find a the right torch available SOMEWHERE. There are only a select-few torches that meet my criteria/budget for a new torch, and one of them was recently dis-continued with the replacement having yet to be released.
Butcher you really don't want me trying email :noway:.
What torch do ya need?
Post a pix or two & a model # & you might be surprised who might come up w/ one.

:laf: How about it VV... you have one laying around the garage? :alscalls:
Wow was I ever in luck today!
Found a new-condition Bethlehem Barracuda with a cosmetic dent in the face for CHEAP! It's the torch I wanted the most, and was just dis-continued to boot! Got an equally good deal on a very nice kiln (also just the one I wanted, that is currently out of stock everywhere), squirrel-cage fan and motor ($700+set-up), and a whole bunch of tools and supplies.
This economy makes for some great deals for the buyer. Great day!
http://artistryinglass.on.ca/store/product.php?productid=8250&cat=335&page=1
Well ya gotta like that. :congrats:
I'm looking forward to what comes of this now that you have one :eyebrow:
Your right about about finding some good deals...people are ditching things at an alarming pace.
At least someone must be living right! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Now do you do glass work for a living & make calls for a hobby or is the whole glass thing a hobby? :wo:
Hey Brad -------- (_*_)
:laf:
:alscalls: I was just expecting him to have a rosebud that was outdated too James.... Got tickled when he pulled that out of his hat.
I started blowing glass for a living in '97. Took some time off here and there (especially the last few years). The handcalls idea is just the motivation I needed.
You mean you can make a living at it?!? :shock2:

There are only two things in this world more collected than glass art: coins, and stamps. I'd get into some serious trouble if I tried making coins and stamps, so glass it is.
It's all about how fast you can sell your product (having an innovative product no one else makes helps a lot). It's a lot of work, but it's worth it, being your own boss and all.
Gotta get the new shop up and going (hopefully this weekend) so I can bust-out a few hundred X-Mas ornaments. Tis the season!
I'm looking forward to this...leave him alone guys so he can get er set up.
Now some Christmas ornaments would be awesome. I have been buying my wife and kids an ornament every Christmas that I have spent with them. Started that tradition the first Christmas my wife and I started dating. Would love to see what you can make. Might be interested in buying something like that. :eyebrownod:
