I went down to Dave's place yesterday afternoon for some deer hunting. A friend of Dave's did some pushing for us. Ended up running a pile of deer by us. Dave collected three nice does. I saw a pair of bucks sneaking out of range, and dissappear along with about 10 does. I lost sight of them as they ran around some big pines, but hoped they were headed for a small woodlot across the creek. Dave told me to hop up into a treestand on the edge of his property, and Jeff would push through it. Well, no sooner did Jeff start into the woodlot, when I see tails coming down through the woods! A group of does barreled across the creek over to my side of the bank. Right on their tails was this buck. The does blasted up into the thick stuff crossing my only shooting lane in milliseconds. Figuring he was going to do the same I aimed the scope of my slug gun down the path and squeezed off a round just as he was breaking the brush. At the shot I saw water kick up off to the side of him! The slug had been deflected by all the brush! Quickly racking the bolt I got another round in the chamber. A pair of does, spooked by the shot, came bounding onto the path (80 yards away). The buck turned and started following them a few steps, then stopped. I could see all his neck and the front portion of his shoulder as he quartered toward me. So I planted the crosshairs right at the juncture of the two and squeezed off. Down he went!!! Wha Who!!! I knew he was big, but it wasn't until we got the tape on him that I realized how nice he was. His rack had nine points, and a inside spread of 21 inches, outside of 22-1/2 inches. The tips of a few points had been broken off, or he would have been a 10 point. I was very pleased to say the least. Once again my buddy Dave has put me on a very nice buck. I’ll try and get a few more photos perhaps later on. Right now I have to finish up some butchering. Good hunting!
Dave
That's a beauty for sure Dave; :yoyo: :yoyo: congratulations. :congrats: :congrats:
Pat
Very nice! Congrats, Dave! :congrats:
I've never done a deer drive. No doubt it definitely works! ;yes;

Nice looking buck and you need to thank Dave. Which I am sure you already have.
Jerry
That sure is a nice buck Dave!! I even seen the slug hit the water!! Congratulations on a fine harvest!! :yoyo: :yoyo:

Very nice buck indeed Dave. Dig that spread! Congrats!!!
Nice buck sir :yoyo:. Drives are an excellent way of spending time with friends and seeing deer. I'd like to have been around when the community did coyote drives ;yes;. Dave you better keep being nice to Dave as Dave seems to have a very good spot for hunting .
Yes! I'd be tickled with a buck that wide, and you gave it a good write up to boot. WTG on the buck, and thank you.
:highclap: Way to go, Dave !!! That's a fine buck. :highclap:

Bolt action slug gun?? Kewl! I wanna see and hear a bit more about it!
I had to stop and start over reading a couple times with all the mentioning of Dave :laf: I thought you were going to display your story telling abilities again but this time talk through yourself as the third party. :alscalls:
Yah, :doh2: then I started putting it all together.
Nice deer for sure, he's go a quite the spread :yoyo:
NICE ONE DAVE!!!!!!!!!!!! :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: What ya gonna do? Mount it? Make calls? :wo:
VERY NICE BUCK Dave!!!! It sure is a wide rack. Looks great. :yoyo:
Very nice Dave ! Congrats to ya ! :highclap:
That was a nice buck. Jeff said about 4 other bucks cut back on him, but this and another cooperated (somewhat - full cooperation would've been both down!). Just as well, though - I get to go on a 'management' hunt tomorrow at one of PA's state parks. And you want to be in there with your buck tag. Potential for a nice one in the same class as Dave's. They draw through a lottery for one day a year to try to cull the numbers to better fit the size of the park.
Congrats, Dave, on a fine day and a beaut of a buck.
Dave
BTW, was there something about a doe in there? I'll have to re-read the post because I'm sure I heard a shot 10 min prior to your buck goin down. :wo:
Man, I assume ya have a nice picture there, but I'll have to wait until I get home to see it (Damn work puters). :doh2:
:yoyo: WOW! very nice buck Dave! That's a wall hanger there!
WTG Dave! :congrats:
That buck sure looks like he has some Ohio genetics in him. :innocentwhistle:

Here's another view.

(Above) Me and my buck, Jeff, and Dave with his three does. There's a small doe along side my buck (five deer in the photo). As I was waiting for the drive to begin, I heard a faint rustling in the leaves behind the stand. Turned and saw a small doe sneaking through. Bang! DRT! Hop down, quickly tag her, then hop back into the stand. Little did I realize I was only minutes away from a nice buck! That's the rest of the story. LOL!

FOs, here's my bolt action Savage 210F slug gun. I have a Bushnell Turkey scope on it. It's very accurate. I've killed my two biggest bucks with it. Down at Dave's place of course! LOL! -What did I say about having a good friend.
As for the buck. I'm just going to cut off the skull cap, boil it off, and mount it on a plaque.
Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Dave
Interesting that it took dave to get Dave to tell about shooting an extra one eh.
I'm just modest Barry. :laf: Don't like to brag... :alscalls:
Meantime, I tried to return the favor yesterday. Jeff and I drove a real nice buck towards Dave and another friend Tom. The buck stopped 25 yards from Tom, just obscured by some brush (have to use a crossbow, or bow in that area). Buck ended up winding Tom and cut back into the drive. I jumped him standing in a creek, and bounced him back towards those guys. The buck ended up slipping out a back door? Probably across the highway? -They don't get big by being dumb! :laf: My buddy Dave will fill his Buck tag sooner or later.
Going back to drive is the best thing about hunting where I do now Dave. Everybody helps everybody no matter what. Guys jump outta the tree stands to come help load a deer into the back of a Ranger. :yoyo: :yoyo:

Well then Glen get up here cause the Mandy shot the biggest dang cow elk in the herd. :doh2:
:laf: :laf: Im thinking you might have it dressed & quartered by the time I get there Barry. Heck you'll probably already have had Elk for supper a time or two. But I'll bring Art along just in case there's enough work left for the two of us. :laf: :laf:
BTW-- You know the rules about pics right?? :laf: :laf:
I was aware of the Tar-Hunt bolt action slug guns, but wasn't aware anyone else produced them. Pretty kewl!

I don't care how many pics you put up of this one Dave!! He's still a nice buck!!!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
:eyebrownod: :eyebrownod:
I was beginning to wonder if the directions I gave him were bad Dave!! :whew: I told him if he hung around here too long that Diane would be by with the crossbow. He just gave me those  & kinda pawed at the leaves a little. Well I just couldn't stand the thought of this magnificent creature living out his final days with these thoughts of him knowing he may not get the opportunity to breed again so I asked him if he wanted directions to a safer place. He eagerly accepted my offer of help & he quickly cleared the leaves so I could draw him a map on the barren forest floor. He was a bit confused at 1st,, he wasn't sure about getting around Pittsburgh,, but I assured him if he veered a tad to the South he would miss a lot of the deer traffic during drive rush hour & soon regian his bearings before he got lost. He seemed a lot  now. So I just kept an eye on the stars each night after that & I could see the glow slowly dying as it went further East. Finally one night around Dec 7th it wasn't there anymore. That was when I realized that he had made the journey to your neck of the woods & that you could shoot things bigger than groundhogs. :doh2: I sure hope it was a good trip for him as I sent him along the scenic route. Sorry it took him so long to get there but I don't have any control over how fast he drives travels.
Diane said Congratulations as well. She also said if he woulda walked in front of her she woulda let a bolt fly on him too. :yoyo: :yoyo:

Wow ! That is a big buck ! Good job !
Thanks everyone! HaMer, if you wouldn't mind? My son will be home and we'll hopefully be doing a hunt after Christmas when the Winter archery season opens up. So if you could start another buck on it's way. I'm sure the kid would be appreciative. :laf:
:laf: :laf: I'll see what I can do for him Dave!! I think I'm lucky that I got at least one to set down & listen tho. :laf: :laf:
