This is something that people in my line of business struggle with every day.
Screen Resolution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution)- Width and Height your monitor is set to display.
How wide should I make that webpage, because it's going to look different through many computers?
Todays newer laptops use high display resolutions, so those of with desktops AND laptops will see first hand a difference in the size of the web page your looking at from one machine to the next.
Low resolution display settings make most web pages look incredibly large, and put a scroll bar on the bottom to scroll from side to side in order to see the whole page.
High resolution display settings, make some web sites look like a narrow strip or panel of content in the middle of the page.
Fluid widths sites will fill the entire width regardless of the resolution, but it makes any header images look tweaked on a lot of monitors.
So the highly sought after question, (and trust me...web developers check this often) what is the most common monitor resolution used today?
How do I check my resolution?
Well, I'm glad you asked...click this link and it'll check for you. http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/
mine said 911x512 Jim hope this helps.
1920 x 1080
1366 x 768
Wow Weed! I think I know why you want the fonts all increased now LOL :laf:
You too Jim, unless you guys 60 inch monitors  with a resolution like that everything must look like spider tracks.
1400 x 1050
1920x1080
1024 x 768
Do I win?
Mine says 1600x1000, could this cause overlapping on subtitles?
1900 x 1200
1366 x 768
The eyes dictate 800X600 for me.
Makes it a real PITA on forums when photos are not sized down to 640ish unless I zoom down for the pics to fit to the point I can't read the text with binoculars. :readthis:
A nemesis of getting old enough that I will not upgrade the computer again. Just went through a 3 hour zoo last night because my system/apps are so old they can't read .docx files. Several updates and a conversion pak later that had to be done one at a time and I can now. Lost a bunch of hard drive space too. Whoopee - NOT! :rolleye:
1280 X 1024. Do I win?? And everything seems to show up just fine for me.
Interesting :wo: Very interesting.
You guys that are running higher then 1280, what size monitor are you using?
I dont think even my young balls could...(eyeballs) could see the font on some of those resolutions.

My Screen is 12 x 19. Is there a Standard setting for Screen size? cc
1600 X 900 for me, and I can see everything fine.
Brian
My laptop is in the shop........
No standard setting Carl. Some are more common then others, but no standard that I know of.
1920 x 1080 on my desktop.
1920x1200 for me.
27" screen
1366 X 768 with a new Toshiba Satellite 15.6"
1366 X 768, 15.6" laptop
It looks like from the answers so far, we need a "none of the above" option in the poll. :laf:
No kidding Semp :laf:
I made the list from the most common ones. I knew there would be a couple monstrous monitors out there running helacious display resolutions but I had no idea there'd be this many. :laf:

No no, this is no laughing matter :sneer:
19" wide screen @ 1440x900 res. (unless I set the monitor on one end then it's a narrow screen 900x1440) :eyebrownod: :rolleye:
Well one thing is for sure...after seeing some of these resolutions, I dont want to hear anyone wining they cant read the forum font cause it's too small. :alscalls: :alscalls:
