This is something that people in my line of business struggle with every day.
Screen Resolution- Width and Height your monitor is set to display.

How wide should I make that webpage, because it's going to look different through many computers?

Todays newer laptops use high display resolutions, so those of with desktops AND laptops will see first hand a difference in the size of the web page your looking at from one machine to the next.

Low resolution display settings make most web pages look incredibly large, and put a scroll bar on the bottom to scroll from side to side in order to see the whole page.
High resolution display settings, make some web sites look like a narrow strip or panel of content in the middle of the page.
Fluid widths sites will fill the entire width regardless of the resolution, but it makes any header images look tweaked on a lot of monitors.

So the highly sought after question, (and trust me...web developers check this often) what is the most common monitor resolution used today?

How do I check my resolution?
Well, I'm glad you asked...click this link and it'll check for you. http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/

Mine says 1600x1000, could this cause overlapping on subtitles?

The eyes dictate 800X600 for me.

Makes it a real PITA on forums when photos are not sized down to 640ish unless I zoom down for the pics to fit to the point I can't read the text with binoculars.   :readthis:

A nemesis of getting old enough that I will not upgrade the computer again.    Just went through a 3 hour zoo last night because my system/apps are so old they can't read .docx files.   Several updates and a conversion pak later that had to be done one at a time and I can now.   Lost a bunch of hard drive space too.   Whoopee - NOT!   :rolleye:
