And for only $10,000 right now. Dirt cheap if you need that much.
Jerry
Edit: Too bad it isn't like eBay where you can see who the winning bidder is. It will probably go to China or Japan.
You are probably right Jim, the Chinese will buy that and rework it and sell it back to the US. I went thru that site and there is ton and ton of that stuff.
I didnt say that :nono:
Thats lot of brass. And I can imagine it's all junk.
If you look at some of the pictures, I agree it looks like junk but makes you wonder were all the once fired 5.56 brass comes from, with the right equipment you can make it look new?? cc
When we had our ammo shop (Arizona Ammo Bunker) we use to bid on all the brass fired on Fort Huachuca, .223 and .308 We always won the bid due to the fact that we had no large transportation cost. We had two large cement mixer that we washed it in, using hot water, small amount of Tide and citric acid. Dried it outside on a screening rack, than another short tumble in ground up corn cobs - looked better than most store bought brass.
Thats approximately 620 grand just in scrap. Wonder what that would be worth deprimed, cleaned and packaged in 100 round cartons??
Interesting comment Mr. John, Did you resale? I like your method for cleaning. cc
We had a little reloading shop, sold re-manufactured .223 and .308. Sold new .45, .38 and .357 everything made in our shop. Sold under the label of Arizona Ammo Bunker and TAPS. Had a good time but then we got an offer from a big company for a buy out. It was just to good to pass up so we sold. Part of the deal was a no competition clause and no disclosure of the company who bought.

When you tumble brass in a cement mixer I don't think you will qualify as a "little" shop. :rolleye:

There is a lot of that Brass that is available and it would be interesting to know what the final bids turn out to be. It is still hard for me to believe with all the Ammo Manufacturers in this country that they cannot keep up with the demand and be a year behind, me thinks the sneaky gubberment we have now is trying to get ammo out of the hands of the people that will stand up against them because they know trouble is brewing over the downfall of the US dollar. Its not a matter if its gonna happen its when and may be a lot sooner than most people believe. cc
Looks like the bidding is starting to get serious - $102,000 right now.
Jerry
Did anyone see THIS? (http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/search?cmd=results&words=brass&EqlExpression=%28%28P_Event_Id%3E=8000%29%20and%20%28P_Event_Id%3C=8999%29%29)
WOW the bidding is getting really serious now. CC $1,650,500.00
Who said brass was cheap - $1,690,500.00
Jerry
Don't look like they plan on using it for scrap, it now makes you wonder who's buying??? cc

Carl - There is a fairly good number of little shops around the country that buy this stuff, either to load as re-manufactured stuff or to melt down and sell. Like I said earlier we use to buy tons from Fort Huachuca. I think you will find that Black Hills Ammo buys a good majority of it. At times we would sell as much as 18 to 20,000 rounds per week of just .223. We use to keep three people employeed full time just on the .223 and .308 stuff.
Thanks Mr John, The bid on that 400,000 lbs right now is at $1,730,500.00, that is getting close to $5.00 a lb, I have not done any calculations and not sure how many pieces of Brass is in a pound but that appears that they plan to reload or clean and resale the Brass, pretty interesting. With all these Little Shops :laf: around and all this Brass the Government has for sale make it difficult for me to understand what all the shortages are about , most of the big manufactures can probably punch out millions of rounds in a week, I think somebody is pulling our leg. cc
$1,730,500.00 Sold. I knew I should have bid $1,730,501. Hindsight is always 20/20.
Jerry
Jerry - That was my bid. I didn't know you has submitted a bid or I would have stopped bidding.

I am sorry too John. I probably ran that up over a million dollars for you. Next time just let me know and I will stop bidding. I still have to pay for the 28 cement mixers that I had contracted to go make the pickup. Maybe I could just have them deliver it to you now.
Jerry :laf:
You Guys :laf: :laf: :laf:, Mr.John now that you got the bid can I have a few thousand of the .223 Brass. :bowingsmilie: cc
cc I would like to have sent you more than just a few thousand. But, got a call from DHS and they are willing to buy all I have for three times what I paid for it. Told them to shove it, going to send it to cc. During the night we had several black helicopters hovering over our front field, armed agents fast roped down and confiscated all my brass. I was afraid for my life! Alas it's all gone.
Dang I though I had hit the Jackpot for some Brass, sorry you had to go thru the ordeal with the Black ops but I don't blame you I would have gave it all to them two, glad you are safe and Thanks for considering me. :bowingsmilie: cc
I had not looked a prices for scrap Brass but was in a Gun Shop today and the guy told me that it over $7.00 a lb so the guys that bought the Brass made a good lick eithr way they want to go. cc
How many helos would it take to fly away with 400,000 lbs
You will have to get Mr.John to answer that, but he might be in shock and can't remember. :laf: :laf: cc
Only one if it's big enough.
Yep, he's in shock :laf: :doh2:
Aren't you glad I'm back. :laf:

A better question is "Aren't you glad that you are back?" As for your question the answer would have to be YES!
Jerry
Yes, this is a fun place and I'm glad I'm back.
