I ain't done much shooting the past few years but this year[until Dec 15th] I plan on shooting a few. I/we[wife and I] dug spuds today and after picking them up I had about an hour of daylight to try for one[want to see if their hides is ready]. Took Spike[the dog] and Jimmie[the KY] with to the first stand. Blew a series of calls and Spike[the dog] laid down 20 feet behind e and never moved for 10 minutes. At about the 10 minute mark a large female came within range[70 yds] and promptly died[did I say I ain't dared shoot the gun for a few years and she still shot where I pointed :yoyo:], on the way home I got within a mile of the house and saw a big dog out in the field disguising himself as a hawk. I wasn't fooled for a moment as I knew it was a coyote when it started running. :nofgr: At the sound of the gun he laid over nicely so now I gotta skin 2 after supper to see how the hides are coming along. Camera's SD card was in the computer so just imagine one or two of my old pics[you've been along on both places ].

What a great way to kill an hour. Nice shooting Barry! Those coyotes look pretty furred up. Might be the start of a long cold Winter.
Dave
Those are BIG coyotes compared to anywhere I've hunted them, which would be from Southern California to northern BC. One of the biggest I've killed was almost on the Alberta line however, so I'd surmise that they get bigger over your way.
Good start and some good shooting.
I'm not sure if ours are bigger but I know the only ones we've killed over 50lbs came from within a mile of the house. I always think the coyotes South of me are larger but the scales never agree. :wo:

Must be something in the water around your place: big spuds, big carrots, big coyotes. How big are your kids? :laf:
Sounds like one heck of a hour!
Great shooting.

So with Braz feeling like he wanted to call, I let him and this little girl who musta been sick of being bitch slapped by a kazillion geese came charging in on ly to get Ruger slapped.

On the way outta the field I had to pass[not really but I could ] this old house.

Wow! What a great catch of the owl in the old house window. Extra good pics.
well now, no one could deny you of having a boring morning...
That is pretty cool right there :eyebrownod:
So I had an hour last eve to kill so I went a mile South and a 1/2 mile West of the house to here
(http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh145/pitw75/coyote%2009/coyotes%202015/IMG_1640_zpstai4qeld.jpg)
The big dog came charging across that large open space at a pace I couldn't have kept up to in the truck. Spike[the dog] was running around to the West of me and the big dog stopped to look at him about 70yds in front of me. That part of the plan worked fine but I shot a mite low or hit a branch with the bullet as it took out 2 legs.

Then as a bonus on the way home I stopped by a dugout to see if there were any rats in it and this girl was guarding the hole.[seconds before this pic was taken there was a coyote further over] :eyebrow:
Now that fur looks pretty nice. Was it? And who woke the bear up?
You know the phototog is good when moose start looking like bear. :innocentwhistle:
:eyebrownod: looks like a Bear...and I was wondering why he wasnt sleeping :laf:
Bears were out on Thursday while I was up fishing.

And who woke the bear up?
that was my first thought too... glad he clarified it though...
over the years I've found bears don't normally hit the den till the snow piles up that they can't find food or travel easily... our bears down here on the coast hardly ever den up and if they do it's only for a short period of time, a week or so...
So I goes deer looking with a buddy who has never called a critter. :readthis: Soooooooo we stop looking up a couple trails looking like
(http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh145/pitw75/coyote%2009/coyotes%202015/IMG_1653_zpsqmx7crlf.jpg)
When she came on to the the cutline at about 100yds. Buddy hasn't shup up much since we got here :madd: and she didn't stop but I got her anyway. Silly bugger figured I'd missed as I shot as she was headed out fast. :nofgr:
Now he wants a call. :alscalls:
Gonna hose him as he knows cause I shot a mite high and blew a hole in the neck/back that I didn't wanna deal with, sooooooooooooo, we stopped at the Hutterites and traded her for 10 snares with the Seneker lock that I'll fill up later and see how the new system works at quicker dispatch.
That's be kinda handy havin a place to trade your quarry like that. :eyebrow:
pitw,
You are going to need to spend a few days inside and not go out shooting. There is only so much fun that a man is allowed to have and you have already surpassed your quota for the week.

Jerry it with great pleasure that I don't go to work everyday. I gotta check on a herd of 250 cow/calf pairs everyday but it ain't much of a hardship LOL. I'm hoping to throw in a day of fishing this week as well as a 12 hour round trip to the boys last football game of the regular season. I was also just told Donny wants to go moose hunting tomorrow as it's go to work with your dad day in school.
Ma'sBirthday today so I gotta bake a cake and cook supper of her choice, then duck shoes as I forgot to buy a present.

well the day of fishing doesn't count against your fun quotient as that's providing food to the family, and the road trip is taking care of family commitments...
moose hunt also meeting fatherly obligations...
on that last matter, brother you're on your own... all I can say is I hope you're a hella good baker... I know I'd be in trouble there...

I can shoot coyotes year round Carl as a landowner. Season to me is when the fur is good enough to ship to NAFA.
Boys got slaughtered in their football game and Bobby's best buddy has been banned from coming to my place because of his lack of participation in the game. The lad has to learn there is consequences for actions.
