WE didn't have time to fish that long today as some weedeating had to be done. SO after we worked we tried the bass but they just weren't bite-n today, so we went to the honey hole to find out they weren't either. I got this one and tried to talk lil-man into leaving so I was ahead of him.....But he's posting in a minute :doh2:

Lil-Man, You just stay focused and keep at it. We've got a long way to go and a lot of fishing to do between now and June 22nd. Every inch will count, so don't pass up an opportunity to spend an afternoon with hoppers and worms on the blue gills and crappies. Hint, While your filling a bucket with panfish, put out a cat line. Not sure if there are carp in your neck of the woods, but they should be running up rivers right about now. Canned corn nibblets and worms will interest them as they move through.

We've got to watch out cause there are some dark horses here that will be coming hard soon. I'm particularly wary of Jimmie as if he gets into them cats he will get inches quick. Burker is another we'll need to watch out for. Good news is that Jim cut himself out of the contest..... he would have been tough...... sucker  :biggrin:

I'm not worried too much about your dad as I figure when he's fishing your fishing and you'll woop him.... so I just got to keep pace with you, spinner...... Good fishing young man!!

The ones in the pics were all taken on a spinner bait [silver blade, white head, lime skirt]. Most seemed to be hanging at 4-6 foot down and bit steady till dusk. When it slowed up, I put on a jitter bug and worked the opposite side of the pond, but didn't bother to walk them back to the truck for pics. All were pretty much the same size. I know there are some bigger in that pond..... Maybe tomorrow I'll see if the cats will bite. Some of those bad boys will run 30+

BTW - my dad called today and said the striper action in the hudson is picking up. Not sure I can cut out this coming week, but probably the week after. When they are running, he gets them 30-50 lbs all day long  :biggrin: says he starts taking advil before he leaves the house.

Nope. The wife pulled in to where we were fishing and said come home. So that was our cue to stop for the day :bowingsmilie:...LOL
CAm had a big cat fish break his line minutes before the turtle was caught. If he had landed it......I would be way behind.

And Stu...How I would love to have a few of those in a paying tournament....The boys I fish against would die.

Hey I got a question....and I'm not picking on you...but NC fishing regulations appears to have a pretty stiff law on bass under 14". You just posted 19 bass all less then 12 inches.

I'm not a game warden....but one of the rules posted on the Tourney was;

I hear ya..... and I actually read and reread the regs and pretty sure the limits do not apply to private ponds [which this was], but even if they did ..... the reg's read 'Largemouth: 14 inch minimum, except that 2 may be less than 14 inches. Smallmouth & spotted bass: 12 inch minimum, except that 2 may be less than 12 inches'. ..... and daily creel limit is 5 in aggregate with no more than 2 Largemouth and 2 smallmouth or spotted being less than 14 or 12 respectively.

I did catch and release, taking a pic of each fish and then releasing it as I went. ..... so 'at the time and location of it's catch', each was 'legal to harvest'.

I debated if I should post these myself and I only took pics of about 1/4 - 1/3 of what I caught. Every dang one was about that same size, but if you look close at the first one you can see an indication that there is at least one in there that is bigger.

I respect whatever ya conclude and however ya want to handle. I need to check on the private pond thing anyways as one of my farmers said 'sure ya can fish, but ya got to keep everything you catch cause there are too many in it.'. He was referring to bream, crappies, and bass, but think the same is true of that pond with all the small ones.... too many bass, not enough bait fish.

For sure, I ain't done nothing the game wardens would get on me for. Not my style.  :wink:

I'm pretty sure your going to find that the inland waters regulations doesnt apply to that pond, I know here they dont.

Stu, Didn't want to keep posting over there on the fishing topic.
Cam did catch that turtle on his fishing pole. It was the first one we have got in on a pole. They usally bury up on the bottom or snap the line as soon as they start fighting.He had it hooked perfect to where the turtles mouth was hitting the hook and not the line. But he's no longer in the barrel as my cousin heard it and let him loose. He was as happy as a pig in mud when he got it to the bank. But there is a big one that we want to get as it's shell is HUGE. It will go as big around as a basketball and the shell is about 8-10 inches tall of it's back. Biggest one we have seen here.

I bet he was beaming when he got that bad boy in. I don't recall ever catching one on a pole. I have trapped a few for folks with fish ponds, have caught a few in beaver sets, and I remember catching them by the tail from canoes in shallow streams. The funniest was when we spotted one about 10 foot down and a buddy used his lure to snag it and raised it to the surface. It never moved a muscle the whole time until he grabbed it by the tail and swung it into the canoe...... then it went nuts and in his rush to get he's feet out of harms way he almost swamped the canoe. He when over the side along with his pole and a bunch of tackle.  :roflmao:

Stu....What's up? I thought for sure since it was raining here yesterday that we would come in and see another lunker from down south? It's not raining today and the wife has to work tonight, which means.....a few bass are going to have sore mouth by dark thirty...LOL Cam had the bass pro catalog out looking last night if that tells ya anything :doh2: But he was looking at $30 items as he thinks you have beat him....he forgets about dear ol dad still fishing.....LMAO

I couldn't get out yesterday, but I'm hoping to sneak out this evening....... there is a pond I want to try a fly rod approach to bream on  :biggrin:

Cam was whipping the wind week before last with my flyrod going after crappie. He gave up and I got two on it just to let him know it could be done......(Thank you lady luck :wink:)

On the same note, we did catch several several bluegill on a grasshopper fly. If the hoppers are starting to show there you might want to try it.

The fly rod approach worked pretty good today...... need to work on my fish keeper strategy. Don't know how many I tossed toward the spackle bucket on shore only to have them fall short in the water.  :doh2: Got a bunch of little bass too, but what was interesting is that I had zero hits on the spinning outfit, but they sure did like that little popper on the fly rod.  :biggrin:

Between him and Stu I don't know if I'm coming or going?????

It's also time to print a new FnF sign as that one has had it.  :laf:

Cam had a ball in the river yesterday. We had a few nice smallies to get off, but all in all just a great day of fun the him. Ask him how deep it got and how cold the water was at the certain depth.....LMAO He's going to post his pics in a few. Aan Bill, notice how small my catfish were. LOL Those are some of the ones me and Cam put in a few months ago. We just can't get their friends to hit.

Yeap. The wife was sitting on the dock with her feet in the water asking why I was taking pics of those "baby" fish.....They just don't get it do they...LOL

Cam wore me out this weekend fishing. (I slept good last night...LOL)  I took him down on Middle fork where we use to fish when I was a kid. We waded the water in shorts and had a blast. We also dropped more fish trying to get pics than we actually took. I got to figure out a better way before next trip. As he asked last night if we could go again this morning before his party.
Last fish on the river was about a 4 poud small mouth. But I was on top of the old dam and he got off before we could get into position to land him. I had forgot how much fun that river was. Maybe next trip I'll show him North Fork. :eyebrow:

I felt like I was wading today. Even had my waders on and they were as wet on the inside as on the out. Had to dump them when I left. It was just a light misty drizzle when I started out, but started pouring shortly after I started casting..... but all I could think was 'what if jimmie gets his camera back before the end of June?' If it lets up some and I get rid of this chill, I may try again this evening.

Geez you got some hungry turtles there. What was they biting on? Worms? I saw a big one come up in the middle of the pond I was at today, but I don't think I ever caught one on a line!

I caught a turtle once it was a little bigger then a 50 cent piece he fought like crazy.

Stu, Worms and minnows. Me and Cam have already shot around 15 out of the big pond this year. The ones we caught have came from the smaller pond. And we keep seeing them. This week the jugs and chicken gizzards are coming out. We are finding dead catfish, the smaller ones, and they are bite in half. So the turtles have to go.
Also in the big pond, the bass have had little ones the last few years and we are going to start pulling the 12" ones out and relocating them to another pond so they don't all stay the same size. Seems everything we are catching this year is 12" fish. So some of them gots to go. Of a nite you can take a light around the edge and see thousands of 2-6 inch bass. They may get thinned a little too.

She's a good egg. She does let us know that we go over board from time to time, but she also goes with us from time to time. She just won't put a worm on her hook. So I introduced her to the art of plastic lizards.  :biggrin: She loves catching those bass. But I have to figure out how to get her to take her own fish off know :confused:

I got him a new fly rod and vest and the brother-in-law got him a new spinning combo. At 11:00 last night we were still filling up his vest ... from my vest. He missed the bus this morning as we both over slept....LOL

Well we had to mow this afternoon and only got to fish 30 minutes before the rain started again. Cam got a lesson in dry flies this afternoon, along with somemore help in casting. He's doing pretty good.

You guys are lucky. I read and handle a tape measure every day, all day. As long as I can make out the the black squares (even foot marks) or the red diamonds (16 inch centers) were good to go.  :yoyo:

Well long story, but net is I have a new fishing spot because of a beaver problem. I wasn't planning to fish, but always have my poles with me and she told me I should and for some reason I could not come up with a reason to argue. Third cast I had a monster on.... in and out of fallen trees, surfaced and threw the hook  :madd:

Caught a few more, but was still fuming about missing the monster. ...... Wham.... drag goes wild ... then nothing .... reel in and my spinner bait is all bent and missing the spinner.....  :madd: Pick up my other rod with a nice new jitter bug on it and cast up the shore... gurgle, gurgle.........WHAM...... gotcha.... running deep and burning out drag...... plick..... 10 lb test breaks.  :madd: Back to the other rod and tie on my last of my favorite kind of spinner baits....... nothing for a while..... than Wham.... long fight and all the time wondering what will go wrong...... but nothing did....

Caught several other smaller ones then ..... Wham ..... then nothing spinner seems fouled.... then smaller wham and I boat one like the first pick, but notice my last favorite spinner bait is all bent up and missing the spinner.

About dusk I had visitors checking me out and swiming circles about 10 yards out around my boat. Ocassionally slaping tails to the surface and sounding. Then circling again. I could almost have swatted them with the paddle.

Me and ...."The turd" went to the ponds this afternoon. I ended up working on the backhoe all afternoon while he fished. OUr damn was leaking a little so we hauled in several loaads od shell and I re-worked that end of the pond. Long story short....He skunked me today.

Well, me and Lil-man hit Middle Fork of the Holston again this morning. He was in play mode as he didn't fish that much. Then he whined about having to take pics of my fish. We went to a place we haven't fished in a long long time, only to find out they would not hit crap. But we did see a few deer and got a pic of one. It's in the center of the photo. (And we caught two more turtles.) No pic cause Cam said they didn't count....LMAO)

Well Stu...the wife got off work eary yesterday and had lil-man, Soooooo  :innocentwhistle:, I went fishing. Yeah the yard needed to be mowed, but the water was calling my name. I went below the house with the fly rod and after a few minutes a friend stopped in to tell me to get so carp out of his pond if I wanted them for our ponds. So, trip to the house for the other poles and a can of corn. Once I got done I ran by the house so Cam couls help me get some pics and through them in our ponds. And if the rain holds off today......I'm taking Cam back to get a few more. :biggrin:

Jim. Ya just have to know how to fix them.
Take a 1/2" piece of cardboard and place your fillets on. Season to taste and bake at 350 deg for 45 min.
Take out of the oven, throw the fillets in the trash and eat the cardboard.  :wink:

Well we got to fish for almost an hour and a half before the thunderstorms hit. And we got soaked before we made it back to the truck. But we had fun and that's all that matters. Cam wouldn't listen to dear ol dad and take several poles, he just took one. I took four and worked myself to death the 1st 45 minutes. The rain felt good to me.....LOL

The battery in the camera started to go dead and twas close in getting all of the pics took before they did. It's also hard to keep 5-6 carp still at one time to get a pic. Sorry if some of them are not the best.

Cam is posting in a few. He's got to get out of the shower and eat first.

Nice haul..... I'm thinking I might be toast.

I got home from a short wet trip only to realize I had left my camera tucked up under the boat above the back of my truck. Reached up in there and it weren't there no more  :puke: Drove back along my route and found it in the middle of the road. It's days of picture taking are over, so now I'll need to look into gettin a new one  :doh2:

Took Cam to the ponds Friday night to do a little night fishing. They were hitting top water pretty good and ended up with a bat in the line around 11:00....

Well, for the last 3 years he has been telling us that some how or another he is kin to Wade Boggs or his wife. That he has drank beer with him several times. I get home from work today and was helping the wife finish supper and the phone rings. Tis the friend. He asks me if I remember the tales he has always told and I tell him yeah. He asks if he can bring some people down to the ponds to fish with us. So I say yes of course. Well, we eat, then head out to do some fishing. We arrive to see several trucks from Florida. I smile. I am a Yankee fan from a very young age.  :biggrin: But then my heart is broken as it's just Wades brother in law. So I talk to him a while to make sure the story jives, and it does. So as they are getting ready to leave he tells me that he is going to talk to Wade about our fishing hole and see if he won't come up and do a little fishing and hunting this fall with us. I told him that would be fine, but I wasn't holding my breath. He laughed and promised that if he didn't get him here, he would bring me and Lil-man there in Florida to meet him and at least fish. (I'm like a kid at Christmas now.... :biggrin:)

Now, Here's the fish for Mr. Stu. And by the way, before it rained us out the fish were hitting like never before. Dave's kids caught a crap load using night crawlers. But then again me and Cam usually stick to the fake bait.

Well, Here's the last length in for the contest. I hooked a big trout , 22-24" long....but it got off. Cam was trying to get the net on it but we were just to slow.
