Risk High for Striking Deer

(AP) -- Insurance giant State Farm says vehicle collisions with deer are up across the country, and it provided some statistics.

Pennsylvania ranked No. 1 with more than 105,000 collisions for the year ending June 30. It was followed closely by Michigan.

West Virginia, however, is the likeliest state for hitting deer. The odds for motorists are 1 in 39.

West Virginia has about one deer for every two residents.

Deer collisions are less of a problem in the wide-open landscapes of the Intermountain West.

Utah had about 5,700 for the reporting year.

State Farm says the odds of hitting a deer in Utah are 1 in 400.

The numbers show that across the country, vehicles hit deer about 100,000 times a month.
I say what I think not think what I say.

HaMer, Really Sorry to hear about the Big Buck running off but don't feel like you are the only one that every happens to, This past Saturday evening I shot a Big Buck in Georgia , Don't see how I could have missed but he did the same thing ran into a thicket ,no blood trial but 5 of us stomped that thicket out from one end to the other and could not find any sign whats so ever, its amazing , really make me feel bad as I don't like to wound them and not be able to find, a real heart breaker. Maybe you can go back and see if any Birds are circling.  cc

HaMeR

Hi CC- I've been lucky enough I've only lost 1 deer while hunting. I know it happens. Sometimes they just won't let go. With yours not leaving a blood trail he might make it thru to next year.

The main thing is Diane didn't get hurt & the truck is being fixed.
