OK fella's here's a topic that I know something about and I believe it needs to be discussed .  I know I do too much of it and I think some do to little.  When I joined this site it became abundantly clear quickly that Canadians were not the most favorite people in the world with some folk here.  On the flip side I can say that Americans filled that part of the bill here .  Instead of anybody going ballistic about it though we all kept talking and I for one am very happy about that cause.
1.)  I have learned things about people that I couldn't have any other way.
2.)  I have made friends that I'm willing to share stuff with that I didn't think was possible.
3.)  I can honestly say my learning on this piece of [you know] computer has been hastened.
4.)  My recipe book has got fatter.
5.)  My trapping skills have grown to levels I never expected.

Talking has many good points and the only bad one I can think of is "Dry Mouth".  I apologize for what some of you take as a dumb question but when you don't live everywhere it's dang tough to know everything.  It has boggled my mind when I think back to when I joined how things have changed for me.  If someone had said I'd be going to Kentucky/Tennessee to hunt coyotes two years ago I'd have laughed until I  :puke:'d.  Now it's not only a possibility but a  certainty.
Most if not all of us are unsure about somebody/something we don't know anything about but talking can bridge the gap very nicely.  Not talking keeps us guessing and even worse assuming,  and we all know where that leads  :argh:.  I can't wait to hear my first "Thundering Gobble" thanks to the talking I've listened to.  The sharing of tales to me is the most unselfish act there is and it really [thing you do to make your bladder feel better] me off when someone is selfish[My daughter Amanda comes to mind here].  I don't want your inner most secrets but I sure want some some that have the statute of limitations has run out on.
Give me your thoughts on talking please lady's and gentlemen and thank you to the great people here who have talked already :bowingsmilie: :bowingsmilie: :bowingsmilie: :yoyo:

Barry-- My Dad started taking a week long fishing trip to Canada every year back in about 1968- 1970.  He never came home with any negative words towards the Canadians he met. He always came home with a lot of fish & stories that he would tell our other Family members & Friends. I listened to a lot of them. His annual weekly pilgrimmiges have become more laborous to him since he's turned 80. It's just harder to set that long in a car anymore. This year was his 1st missed trip since he started going. I've been there on 6 or 8 of those trips & can Honestly say I have nothing bad to say about any of the people I've met up there. I've often wondered why folks here & there have the feelings towards each other that they do. It's not like we're taking each others jobs for less money like mexicans. I've always thought of Canadians & Americans as being on the same level socially. I've always thought we would have each others backs if needed. I've also always given people I've met the 1st time the benefit of the doubt. I let them ruin whatever Friendship that may have been.

For the last 15 years Mom & Dad always went to the same campground up there. And in doing so made a true Friendship with Nick & Kathi. So good in fact they've been down here for our Thanksgiving the last 8 years. I for one have nothing against Canadians. It will be my pleasure to meet you at the LBL this year Barry!!  :yoyo:

BTW-- Any chance you could get that aeroplane to stop by & pick up Jimbo on your way thru??

Talking or more correctly, typing on a keyboard, is what this or any forum on the internet is about.  One can not see faces or expressions so smileys are used to convey emotions.   Anything one reads could be true or not.  After a period of time one learns to trust or not trust certain posters.  Just like one does in person.

I think the big thing not to forget is that the WHOLE world can read what one posts.  And everything is recorded, good or bad, and can be brought up at the most embarrassing of moments.   :eyebrownod:

We are working on that and I think we could use some help  .

It seems that a lot of our perceptions of other people come from listening to others talk about them either in a negative or positive way.  I wasn't trying to say that you guys all disliked Canadians but weren't sure about us ["L" I ain't].  My trip down to MT this summer had nothing but positive feelings towards the people I met[especially the guy in the suit who filled my van with gas cause I was being a bit confused by the damb pump].
When I tell people I'm going to the LBL I definitely get mixed responses.  It goes from are you nuts, to that should be great as Kentucky is all blue grass and horse farms[what I thought too until I was informed that wasn't the case by a fellow from there on here].
I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't think there is a problem in the world that couldn't be fixed by talking.  The problem lies in ego's or perception of wealth  getting in the road.  I mean I literally hated[that is a strong word] electronic[gotta hate having to type the whole dang word out now] callers but I can now tolerate them because of the feed back here.
One person talking negatively can do more harm than ten talking positively it seems to me.  Case in point was the fellow from Colorado up in North Eastern Saskatchewan on our fishing trip two years ago.  He sat at the camp fire the first night running down our country so bad that I couldn't keep quiet any longer.  But once I challenged him on all his statements the  rest of the fellows from down south did understand my points and the first guy left the fire alive thanks to them.
I totally understand what a certain amphibian has done for relations with our two country's in the predator hunting world.  Trust me that [insert whatever bad terms you want here] doesn't represent me or 99.999999999% of anybody.
I'm coming to the LBL and it sure ain't to shoot a coyote[I got a notion I can do that here] but more to see stuff I ain't never seen[trees] and meet people I've learned to respect more than I do some of my neighbors.
I'm thinking if the fellows on this board were to run our country's that the border just might become a thing of memory's.
I say what I think not think what I say.

My thoughts on talking. :wo:

Well, HaMeR can do more of it than anyone I know.  (Not that that is a bad thing)

CCP, doesn't say enough for my liking.

Jimbo talks when asked a question. No problem.

Me? Maybe I don't talk enough, because I love to listen, but I love a good conversation!  :thumb2:  That is until I lift my bangs & start rubbing my forehead back & forth trying to remove the sign that says "Interrupt Me!"  :argh: That is one main reason I love the forums. I can complete what I want to say w/o being interrupted. :sneer:

Good post Barry!  I have also enjoyed this site and all the good guys I have met here.  I think the icing on the cake though, is going to the annual LBL gathering and meeting a lot of the guys face to face.  It's nice to put faces with the names!  I'm really looking froward to meeting you and all the guys at LBL this Feb!!

Me too.  Remember I don't want my face on the internet and anyone that feels the need to face my wrath and has no regards for others wishs's will be persecuted to the full extent of my capabilities.

Barry....If I did not like ya......I would have never sent you a thing, bought or giving......And I probably woulda told ya ...right off
But you already know that...

I think if ya come to LBL you should do a few coyote stands with the fellows there so you can have a better understanding of what we go through in the challenge of killing an "Eastern coyote"  It is truly different than what yall do there and I would imagine a great deal harder....But the only way to bridge that gap is to fully understand both sides.
I do not think it is a Canadian thing at all.....

As far as doing good for folks.....I cant top any of  these folks......But most of what I do get to do....I keep that for the most part to myself....As I know you do too....
Just seeing the results is good enough for me.......and I know a some folks never see some of these things any of us do....sometimes that can shed a darker light to them as what we try and accomplish.....But if only once they would try it themselves they would forever think differently of those around them.
We dont always all agree on one thing....but if we did.....that would be boring.....We do all come together when help is needed or kids are involved and no one gripes at all......we just get er done and that is one of the greatest things EVER.

I have learned a lot here too.... And met some really great folks.....and disagreed with most of em at one time or another but that does not make any of my friends any less of a person or a friend......

Someone special to me once said...... Do Something Nice for someone....Without them knowing it and keep it to yourself...
Then watch it change them cause they wont be able to keep from returning the favor to all they meet trying to repay whoever it was that helped them once.
I have seen you and many others here do this many times and want to commend you all on an AWESOME way of thinking...... :yoyo: :yoyo:

Meeting you at LBL will be a treat......But to see you hunt with us would be an Honer and a high compliment.....
The LBL has plenty of fellowship.......but to walk with us in the woods would be to welcome you into our living rooms.

Barry, you should know and understand there will be many, many cameras at LBL.     And not everyone can control which way they point.   :nono:

Best I can do on the plane Barry is,, your airport to Jim's,, Jim's to a Tennessee or Kentucky airport & have one of those fellas pick you up.   Or both of you fly down separate to the same airport.

This thread weren't supposed to be about me  :doh2:.  HaMeR I'm driving so as to see as much country as I can .  Semp you know what I mean .  Al I'd come hunting with anybody but I'm more afraid my clubfoot ways would scare away some fella's coyote and then he'd need a new target :puke:.   I don't own camo and don't see me buying any in the near future[or far future for that matter] and I just couldn't live with screwing up somebody's chance at a critter.  Because of talking I'm more than aware how much different and I'm thinking harder it is for you fellas to hunt them than me.  When I first joined though because I didn't know any different I figured everybody had the little rascals everywhere.  I also thought a few other things were the same but have been proven wrong.  I have no problem with being wrong but I do have a problem with continuing to be wrong when it's proven. :innocentwhistle:
I say what I think not think what I say.

There are good Canadians and there are not so good Canadians.  There are good Americans and there are not so good Americans.  I learned to stick with what I like and stay away from what I don't like.  When it comes to Canada, I don't have much use for Quebec.  When I was a kid we would fish in Ontario and it was great.  Then I went to France, I mean Quebec.  Many people made it a point to speak French and made it clear that I should be learn French.  I was there to take my daughters to see Phantom of the Opera (it was in English) and when it was over I cancelled a second night in the French hotel and headed back to the states.  A few years later that we went to see Phantom for a second time I got tickets for a late afternoon show so that I was not in a hotel and didn't need to eat anywhere while there.  I look at it as lost economy for them.  As for the rest of Canada I have been treated very well, except that one time when crossing the boarder and rather than just saying "No" when asked if there were any firearms I said, "No, I know you don't like them here."  That got my van checked for about an hour and a half.  Now I just say, "No" and get to drive on.

As for FnF there are people that like it here and some that have left.  I don't care that they left and I am sure that they don't care that I have stayed.  Like I said, I stick to what I like and stay away from what I don't like.

Jerry

P.S.  I am glad you like it here. Eh.

If this is a plot insinuating that we should talk to Renaud and rethink our perceptions of him from listening to others talk about him in a negative way.....

:nono: It aint, I say it aint happening :nono:

He had his chance to make a first impression, I wasn't impressed. :roflmao:

Actually Barry you took a lot of the brunt of our grudges when you came aboard because Bopeye had this campaign going that he was gonna blow Canada up. In fact his hatred went on for so long, that we all pretty much just fell into it. Him posting about his hatred for the north of the northern border brethren was like a daily thing, images, signature lines, phrases, jokes, posts on other boards, etc, etc. :laf:

You done good sir. Dealt with it, showed us otherwise, and I for one am glad ya stuck around. :congrats:

Not sure what you're lookin' for Barry. In person, sometimes I can't shut up. Behind the key board, I don't say a whole lot.

As far as I'm concerned, people are people. I like people not matter where or what color they are (however, I do like red heads  :eyebrow:), but if you're an ass, well it don't matter where you're from now does it, 'cause you're still an ass? As it stands, I really like everybody here and look forward to the LBL. As you said, you learn a lot from folks from other places. I really appreciate all of the stories and pictures of each others lives that are posted here. It gives me a chance to experience a whole host of places and cultures that I most likely will never be able to go to. I have also learned that even though things may be VERY different, people and things are mostly the same deep down.

Well said Mike, I feel about the same except... I have a soft spot for blonde's.  :eyebrow:

Barry,
A long time ago I learned to evaluate a person by their actions alone not from where they come from, their race, sex, or outer shell.  I know we humans sometimes tend to judge all because of the actions of a few, I suppose that’s just our nature.  I've been fortunate to have traveled across the U.S. and to several countries outside my homeland. In most cases I’ve found that if I treat people like I would like to be treated they will return the same.  A handshake and friendly smile goes a long ways.
I don’t respond to a lot of the topics here on FnF because either I don’t have much of anything worth adding or else my thoughts have already been mirrored several times already. When I do post, I say what’s on my mind, be it good or otherwise. I know you said you did not intend for this topic to become personal so I won’t go make it so. I just want to add one thing:  going back to the first line in my ramblings, to me you have shown yourself by your actions. Barry, you have shaken our hand and shown us your friendly smile, I respect that. You’re welcome at my campfire anytime.

Born and raised in the southern highlands of Appalachia, I'm just an ol' country boy who enjoys calling coyotes... nothing more, nothing less.

I tend to get along with country folks no matter were there from and no matter the race. I think it is because most guy's raised on the farm (so to speak) see things in black an white.

My only problem with Canada  when I was up there was I got some bacon at a restaurant and it didn't have salt on it and they didn't have any grits.  :puke:

One more thing the ketchup at the wendy's had sugar in it.

I agree on country folk

I thought grit's were the piece's you got on your steak after it hit the ground until I got informed different by one of you fella's.

I like salt in my bacon

Our ketchup is a mite different in many fast food places I'll admit.

The service industry up here could learn many things from what I've seen down in the States.  Only part of your service that sucked was at the service stations where there wasn't any .
