F class rifle

Well I got to shoot an F-class rifle yesterday, it was a 6.5x284 norma made by savage. we started at 500 yards, then moved to 1000 yards. I have never shot at those distances in my life. I rang an 18 inch gong at 1000 yards. The owner asked if I liked the rifle and wanted to buy it. I said yes and how much? He said 600.00 with out the scope and rings, I said sold. He said hes fired 528 rounds through the gun so far, said it would shoot probably another 500 before the barrel needs to be reworked. He is giving me all the brass along with close to 300 relaoded rounds.I paid him half of the money yesterday, and next week will pay the rest.

yeah its not one that I would pack around, but they are making it in a hunting model its supposed to be out in the next few months.

Looks like a lot of barrel hanging out over that stock. Does she got quite wallop?

6.5x284 Norma? Heard of the 6.5x284 Winchester But the Norma has thrown me. More info please.

the kick isnt bad at all, my old 270 kicked worse, he also has the 6.5x284 made by cooper in a hunting model

Well after reading the link {thank you by the way} and doing some reading in the manuals that I have. I see that the Sierra edition V manual lists it as the Winchester and my Nolser fifth edition manual lists it as a Norma. Comparing the two there are very small diffrences in the case. It looks like the "Winchester" name will be going the way of the dodo concerning this cartridge and Norma will be the standard.

I am not being picky I am just making an observation. It can be intresting how fast new cartridges can be devised and reliesed to the public and then the manuals have to catch up.


It does look like it is going to be a fun rifle to shoot.
