I am saving that for someone on the board......If the hard head would just send me his address like I told him he would have just the call he wanted from that Buckeye Burl......Who?? You say...........Richard Baxter ( CCP )

I wanted to take it to LBL for him to have but I got sick and the hard head wont send me his address.......
He does a lot of giving on here and I think its time he get a little something in return. :eyebrownod:
So if one of you fellas would be so kind as to PM me his address I would love to make him a squirrel call.
I tried to do this quiet like but I will find him if I gotta drive to his next show....... :eyebrownod:

Those look amazing! The white horn ring on that dark wood really works

Al, They are all beautiful and your doing some nice work. I only have one dislike and its those big plastic tone boards that are over shadowing your nice work.

If it wasn't taken I would have offered to buy that squirrel call, she's a beauty.

slagmaker

Very nice. I dont think you could call an antler ring a "newbie ring".

Question. How much volume can you get out of that squirrell call? I mean the hole is awfully small but what do I know.
Don't bring shame to our sport.

He died for dipshits too.

Todd,

It has a tiny metal reed inside that I purchased.....   :laf: :laf:

I know ya dont like em Todd.....But I dont have a jig yet and it is my favorite tone board to use.....I aint used em all but I dont like castration bands real well and I have had so much fun hunting with these I just cant give em up.
I do sand and buff each one and one of them I completely re turned the outside of the tone board.

I am working on a two piece Burl squaller (O ring fit) I aint posted it yet but Barry said he wanted dibs on it so you couldn't have it..... :laf: :laf:  It has a new double insert in it and the sound is WILD......ask VV, I just sent him the first one of this type.... :eyebrow:

I will always hunt with a K.O. on my neck as we been through some Wild hunts together..........But I do intend to make some myself someday......soon I hope.......I have my water cutter friend working on some ideas for me and my brother in law and I are looking for a milling machine......cause if I make em I want them to be right.
We have done some lathe work for some local folks.....IE industrial parts, optical equip., Custom Fab. parts ect. on the side to make ends meet so with a mill we could feed our families. and I can make some cool calls as well..... :eyebrow:
Right now we are looking at this one......
Only a used one......

So in time you will see a change but its been tough getting there......We cant find jobs here so we hope to start our own business at least long enough to keep things going.
So be patient and I think in time I can make even you happy...... :biggrin  :laf:

I appreciate the comments fellas.......the guy who got the squirrel call bough it from E-bay and called me from MD to thank me and also bought a grunt call and another squirrel call for his son.....He said the ones from the store just dont sound like that....and they are beautiful..... :yoyo: :yoyo:  That made me feel good.

Slagg,

I came up with the idea from watching a squirrel bark......he does it through his nose or mouth closed......so in a sense his hole is smaller yet..... :laf:
So I played with different sized holes to create back pressure.....which we do with our hand anyway.....
and it has gotten many compliments on the sound quality and the loudness can be increased or decreased with your hand creating the most realistic sounding squirrel call I have ever heard.
Its plenty loud enough...... :eyebrownod:

Some folks have been using them when they first start a coyote set or crow set as a kind of confidence sound.......
Making it sound as though the squirrel is barking at the action at the beginning of the set..... :eyebrow:
My BIL and I tried it on crows and it does seem to speed things up sometimes... :eyebrownod:
I Know lorddal has one and I think a couple others on here so ask them......they will tell ya what they think.......I am confident in how they will respond......

I didn't get this part Al?

Its just that particular style of tone board Al. I think that big chunk of plastic below the tone board with the lanyard groove in it is way to much plastic to compensate for when your doing a custom. Those sets of calls are probably the nicest I have seen you do, and I think they would look a lot better eye appeal wise if it had maybe another style in it, where ya just see the tone boards. Plus, I think those other styles of tone boards would benefit you and the over all look of your calls. Kinda like looking at a runway model with granny panties on, it some how just ruins the moment.

But to be completely honest. I really don't consider most open reed calls or howlers with molded tone boards in them anymore, unless they are the makers boards. Then again I'm also realistic and know its not possible for most to make or do their own tone boards and I'm still open to buying them here and there, if the board doesn't over ride the beauty of the call, and it catches my eye.

And I really do like the over all looks of these calls and the materials your choosing to use. Keep up the good work and thanks for taking my opinion for what its worth, just mine.

I was being a smart arse about the reed being store bought.......Knucklhead.....  :iroll:

No problem......
I suppose after I get caught up again....... :whew:   I could make ya one out of antler.....tone board and all.....but I would have to cut it by hand and its a real pain......Not to mention I would just sell it to Barry to make ya jealous..... :roflmao: :roflmao:

a tone board is not a big deal.......as I said I been working on it........I just want to be consistent at it before letting it out.
I can turn that shoulder off easy......but I like it

Oh, Ok. Nah, its not about the function of the KO reed its about the appearance. I know the KO's sound good. I also wasn't saying you need to go completely custom. I was just sharing my opinion that another style tone board like a Carver, Yeller dog, or who ever else makes a similar product, might be a better option. Again it was just my opinion and thats all.

I understand the JC reeds are also store bought too, but where they apply to my point here, is you don't see them, and they generally don't effect the over all look of the calls.

Don't take it out of context Al, I was just sharing my own opinion. (You know one of the anti canned praise groupies)

You just keep up the good work.

Todd

Like I said....I was being a smart arse......Cause I have heard all of those same arguments.
I know what you like.......we have talked about it before..........I am just more about hunting with them than all aesthetics.
And when I find one that looks good and works this well for me.....I will change it.
Were good.
