Went hunting

We went hunting this morning and we went to a field.We called and called and called then we heard a gobbler         way up on the hill  we called a little more then he stopped gobbling and we stopped hunting.We          saw a hen too.

When we left the house this morning the wind was blowing steady at 20 mph and gust up close to 30 mph
I told Kurtis we would make a round and see if any turkey's were out and about.I told him we would go and just trying to keep my word,but in my mind I am thinking we will have to be close to any turkey for them to hear a call in this wind.We walked and then hide and call no answer so we ended up along the property I can't hunt,but went ahead and set up and started calling and nothing.Kurtis asked if he could try the box call so I let him play with it for awhile then he gave it back.We set and talked awhile watched some buzzards fly around then the wind died down and I done a little more calling when we heard a gobble come from the top of the hill.I waited a minute and worked the box call again and this tom gobbles back and we see a hen walking around in the power line cut now about 300 yards out and this tom is still talking to me but he doesn't seem to excited.Kinda like yeah I am up here and if you come on up I will be more then happy to greet ya but I am not coming all the way down there.The gobbler quit talking and after about 30 minutes and no response and not seeing anymore turkey's we called it a morning,but we will get back out this evening and just might put them birds to bed

Go back to the same spot this afternoon & call from there. That Tom knows there is a hen down there.

This is merely my feeble & highly UNeducated opinion here but I don't see where a Tom with hens has a reason or need to gobble once he hits the ground. The Tom & hens already know where each other are so they don't need to gobble on the ground as much. Now once all his hens have left him around 9 or 10AM,, or so he thinks because he can't count,, he will be susceptible to your calling by either thinking he missed one or there is a new hottie in the hood. HTH

hang in there curtis stay after them.that wind makes it very very tuff but you can also use it to your advantage to close the distance on them ole toms they dont hear as good and dont pick up movement as good.its worked for me a few times.

Right on getting out after a turkey Kurtis , I'm so jealous it hurts.  I know nothing about hunting them so the only advice I can give is stay out there as you'll get more than if you are in the house.   Nice hat too .

I had 2 box calls setting beside each other on the shelf just grabbed one and out the door
